Does the TSSAA have a practice restriction for heat? Heat index was 103° yesterday. I know some states will not allow extended time in temps like that for player safety.

Yes,i think 104 then move inside.https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/high-school/2019/08/12/high-school-football-safety-tssaa-heat-policy-alter-practices/1984309001/

         TSSAA HEAT POLICY

The school is responsible for ensuring that the heat index can be measured at the location of all activities. The use of a weather app on a cell phone is permissible, but not encouraged if a digital psychrometer or other
instrument is available to use at the site of the activity.

A cold water immersion tub or other form of rapid onsite cooling should be available for all warm weather practices. If exertional heat stroke is suspected, use immersion for onsite cooling before transporting to the hospital.

. Under 95 Degrees Heat Index:

● Provide ample amounts of water. This means that water should always be available and athletes should be able to take in as much water as they desire.
● Optional water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration.
● Ice-down towels for cooling for warm weather practices.
● Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.

95 Degrees to 99 Degrees Heat Index:

● Provide ample amounts of water. This means that water should always be available and athletes should be able to take in as much water as they desire.
● Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration.
● Ice-down towels for cooling.
● Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.
● For contact sports and activities with additional equipment, helmets and other possible equipment should be removed if not involved in contact.
● Reduce time of outside activity. Consider postponing practice to later in the day.
● Re-check temperature and humidity every 30 minutes to monitor for increased heat index.

100 Degrees to 104 Degrees Heat Index:

● Provide ample amounts of water. This means that water should always be available and athletes should be able to take in as much water as they desire.
● Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration.
● Ice-down towels for cooling.
● Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.
● Alter uniform by removing items if possible. Allow for changes to dry t-shirts and shorts.
● Reduce time of outside activity as well as indoor activity if air conditioning is unavailable.
● If possible, postpone practice to later in the day.
● For contact sports and activities with additional equipment, helmets and other possible equipment should be removed if not involved in contact or necessary for safety. If necessary for safety, suspend activity.
● Re-check temperature and humidity every 30 minutes to monitor for increased heat index.

Above 104 Degrees Heat Index:

Stop all outside activity in practice and/or play, and stop all inside activity if air conditioning is unavailable.

Fellers, ole Fesser Beene would jest laugh at missing practice due to heat. Figure he thought the players were in the shade with helmet and pads. Yep, recon so

He knew about hydration believe it or not.  He knew that game day was too late.  All that said, 1 kid had heat  exhaustion problems much less heat stroke "today" and he would be inmate "Beene."

You are correct. Being cautious is good, but we have become a weak, soft, and politically correct society.

I drove by Griders practice field yesterday at 4:00 and Grider wasnt even practicing our boys.  Grider has got cocky now since he scored 35 points on that Wilson man.  Our boys have a game Friday and they need to be training for it.  You think im joking but im not.

He probably didn’t practice them since it was so hot.

I wasn't arguing that, just how serious some of the practice rule changes have become. Some for the better, some not.

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
