TSSAA tournaments suspended

BlueCross Basketball Championships postponed due to COVID-19

March 12, 2020

Following the conclusion of the girls’ state basketball tournament quarterfinal round today, we are suspending the remainder of the girls’ state tournament and next week’s boys’ state tournament. Whether we will be able to reschedule these events will depend on the length of the suspension and the availability of facilities.

We intended to conduct the tournaments with restricted attendance as we announced earlier. However, today has seen the suspension or cancellation of championship events by the NCAA and multiple collegiate conferences including the SEC tournament that was being played nearby; the suspension of regular season play in the NBA and the NHL; the closure of university campuses and of several Tennessee public school systems; and the suspension or cancellation of high school championships in multiple other states.

COVID-19 is a public health threat, a threat to our student-athletes and our school communities. With the actions being taken all around us, including the action of our host university MTSU in sending all students away from campus, we believe it would be irresponsible and contrary to the public interest for us to continue our tournaments at this time and risk contributing to the spread of the virus.

We will provide further updates as this pandemic evolves, including updates on whether we will be able to reschedule these tournaments.

Myself personally, I do not see how so many are being lead by the mainstream media! In saying that, I’m in the category of “pre existing heart related issues “ and by all accounts according to most news outlets, be absolutely terrified right now!
I’m not because I do my own research on the matter instead of listening to the media. The most common theme among all Viral Specialists is what I thought to be a common everyday occurrence but seeing everyone freaking out, I’ve discovered washing your hands with soap and water, staying home if I’m feeling or am sick and attempting to stay away from large crowds during flu/cold seasons! Those things I thought were pretty much a common thing to do!
I just honestly believe this has been blown out of proportion and the news media is where it started!

It's shameful that the official statement released to the media outlets basically admits that TSSAA simply followed suit in the fashion of "monkey see, monkey do"... I'd have accepted the decision much better if someone had consulted with the Tn. Dept. of Health, and had been advised to do so by a professional instead of someone being politically correct.

Its political. They are scared of the man in the White house because he does EXACTLY what he said he would do when he was elected. They couldn't tear him down so this is the "NEXT" thing. The flu has been MUCH more devastating and we deal with it.Screw up the Countries Economy and the you get the uprising you want. The economy by the way has been doing GREAT the past 4 years.Just my opinion tho.

Yeah,  I think the dominoes were falling and they were left with not much of a choice really.  But I understand your point.

In times like these you need strong leadership at the top with a clear plan.  Otherwise folks are left to come up with their own plans to combat or work things out.   Like not assembling with crowds of 250 or larger.  Another city may have it as not assembling with crowds of 500 or larger.  I don't think there's any scientific data for either number at the moment and folks may be just grasping at straws doing what they think is best.

We have actually been in a bull market for the last 11 years or so.  I believe the market grew by almost 150% under the Obama watch.

There are 2 major things that history will remember under the Trump administration :   He was impeached and the bull market ended on his watch.  The economy can make or break a presidency.

The president(s) get too much credit and discredit for the economy in my opinion.

The start of the Bear market is not really the current presidents fault. Its to be seen yet.
