I don't know of a public school system in Tennessee where that's not the case. And in fact, most of the coaching supplement contracts, as I understand it, are "at the pleasure of the system", meaning they can be cancelled anytime by the school systems. The teaching contracts do require notice where there is tenure, again from my understanding.

That's what I thought as well.

I don't know how all that stuff works.

My point was, given Blackmans recent history,  I'd need some assurances that I'd have ample time to turn things around before I agreed to take the job.

The issue is that local administrators don't have the authority to make such promises and even if they do make them orally, they aren't binding.  And in systems with multiple schools, administrators are moved often and chances are that an administrator who hires a coach isn't going to be there in 3-4 years down the road.

Bottom line - they are teachers first.  That's what they are hired to do.  Coaching isn't the primary function of those folks.  And a large, large, percentage of the coaches I know are in it for the right reasons first, to educate young folks.

While a lot of things about high school sports has become more like college athletics, primarily because of the social media pressures, it's still high school.  Unfortunately pressure on coaches to win championships at that level is way too great, IMO.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
