According to the Brownsville Press, there are two options:

Option One - Renovate the current stadium.  That would involve moving the field and tearing down and rebuilding the bleachers, concession stand/restrooms and dressing rooms.   A rough estimate of the cost would be 10 million dollars.

Option Two - Locate all athletic facilities on campus.  This would include a new stadium, band and football practice fields, moving the baseball field and tennis courts, and building a new softball field on what is left of the old baseball field. The estimated cost for this option is 19 million dollars.

A 60.000 square foot indoor practice facility would also be constructed.  This structure would be built regardless of stadium location.

I'm not sure if they have even considered parking.  It would be a nightmare.

I'm going to add a third option, and that is do nothing!  I hope not, but having lived in Haywood County all my life, I see this option as the one they will choose for the near future. However, I do know money doesn't grow on trees.

I like option 1.

Henry Co. Jamboree

Haywood defeats Henry Co. by a score of 25-21.  I wasn't in attendance, so I don't know, but what was the problem with Haywood's kicking game?

Same as last year Reid starting out rusty should be good by game one. After the 3rd game last year he was automatic I’m not sure why. It maybe the holds

Thanks for your response Tomcatfan.  We had some problem with snaps last year.  Were extra point snaps part of the problem?  Poor snaps can definitely mess up the hold and the timing.

I'm a big believer in the kicking game, so  I hope with a little more practice we can get all of that worked out.

Hey reddyreb.  I don't see a response.  I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Since both Cordova and Melrose are on Haywood's schedule, I thought I'd check the score of their game in the SCIAA Jamboree.  I'll have to admit that I thought Cordova would have come out on top, but I was surprised to see that Melrose won 12-0.  But you never know, jamboree scores can be misleading.

It will be interesting to see how the Shelby Co. schools will fare after having their seasons cancelled in 2020.  To be honest, with the Delta variant running rampant, they may have their seasons cancelled again this year.  I hope not, but all of us may face some restrictions and/or cancellations before the season is over.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
