Yes it absolutely was. Dy'Shawn was a boss tailback, as well. If you had the pleasure of watching him play, consider yourself lucky. I did the TV for the Oak Ridge game that year on MyVLT2 here in Knoxville and I think it was decided by less than a score. Powell played a ton of killer games that year.

He was a hoss for sure. Not often that a player on the losing team wins MVP, but it was well-deserved in his case. The QB (McPhetridge?) was no slouch either.

Yes, Dustin McPhetridge was the QB and he was excellent. Smart with the ball, big frame, difficult to bring down and could get the ball to his playmakers. I was always impressed with how the Powell coaches utilized his skill-set. And honestly, he was sneaky fast when he could break through the first level.

Congrats Oakland, you guys didn't back down from a tough schedule and dominated, yall did what no other Oakland team has done yet to date and that's leave 825 with a W. The job isn't done yet, 1 more game and yall can officially enter the debate as one of the greatest

No question Lipscomb Academy gave Oakland the toughest game this year.  Keep in mind, Oakland stopped Lipscomb on 2 multiple down goal line stands resulting in zero points.  Oakland blocked a Lipscomb field goal.  Oakland did a scoop and score fumble for a 50 yard TD.  There was a non-call lateral that was a Lipscomb touchdown called back.  Lastly, a play that feet got tangled up on a 3rd and 16 incomplete pass that was called pass interference that turned into an Oakland TD.

Oakland in no shape form or fashion is the best team ever, but they were obviously better than Maryville on this night.

Ha!  Should have said, Oakland was very fortunate to win.  Lipscomb moved the ball up and down the field with ease multiple times without a score at the goal line.  One of Oakland's TD's was a scoop and score for 50 yards.  Not an 80 yard drive on the Lipscomb defense.

Regarding best team ever, Brentwood Academy was ranked #3 in USA Today 2 years in a row in 1987 1988 I think.
