Probably an overzealous comment I made when it comes to the Pirates. I haven’t seen them this year.  Everyone is kinda taking SP out of the conversation this year it seems, but I’ll be the first to say that SP is the standard and whoever advances (Gville,Clay, Coalfield, etc.) is gonna have to sink the Pirates ship which is seldom done.

I will say this is the weakest sp team in years, but they have better athletes than anyone in the east.  They are still the favorite to get to the title game.  Sp, Gordy and clay.

I have had the opportunity to watch Gville x2 and Clay x1 this year.  IMO Gville spoils the perfect season for Clay.  Gville has had a tougher schedule with big wins over Coalfield and WHS (WHS was a gift).  The TCHS game score was not lined up with how that game was played at all.  But, maybe a moral victory that should help them push back against "above average teams" in their division.  Clay has played 9 games and I believe only one team they faced has a winning record this season.  20-7 Gville.

SP came into the season with experience at skill and NONE in the trenches. They are very undersized, but getting better with each game. Skill players alone make them dangerous in East.

One of the big basketball receivers is gone, one is still there and in for the long haul and is a great player, but the heart and soul of this team lies with the two 4 year seniors and the host of juniors.  Clay has got 6-7 kids that would start on any team in the east.  I look forward to seeing the Gville passing game against the Dawg defense who have 17 INTs this season.

Heard Arms dropped a few in the bucket last night. Good to hear the kid is back.

It’s interesting Celina has been waiting a year for this one. I mean disposed of 9 opponents and dreamed of the day for a rematch against the Tigers. Impressive for sure!

Clay County definitely has four players that could start for any team in the East when healthy.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
