I would have played the game if it were up to me and my son.  The fault still and will always remain with McMinn's coaches and administration for trying to hide the truth.  If they had just been upfront the game would have been played.  Ifs, ands, or buts, we would all have a Merry Christmas.

I feel sorry for the Indians. The worse thing that ever happen to Kingsport was when the playoffs were created beginning in the 1969-70 season. Prior to the playoffs, they had a gajillion declared state championships. Kidding aside, I have always thought somehow this has created a football entitlement in their community. Not that it exists anymore but it was there.

Ever seen that double decker stadium or the big band?  Bad programs don’t have such things.

No one called them bad. Historically they are the number 1 team in upper East Tennessee. It’s why the can’t win a state title and it didn’t start just 20 years ago. They have the athletes, stadium, facilities, benefactors, excellent school system with all the trimmings. They are not doing something right. Rarely are they in the hunt even when their  win / loss is almost perfect.  Waco has some insight but he is a prophet in his own land.

The whole area got weak is one of the problems. When all these small schools consolidated most weren't worth a crap as small schools and your playing them week end and week out. A lot of this consolidation came about in the late 60's and spread everywhere in upper East Tennessee. DB got infected by playing down to worthless teams in the area and still has. The band issue has also changed things as years went on also. Imagine a school that has a popular rock act preforming at all their halftimes, you know why the crowd is there for. I set on the top row about the 47 yard line at Maryville games and every home game a flood of mothers come up there to record their kids playing in the band from visiting teams which is great but you never see anyone come up to record their son playing football. Politics has also infected DB which is no secret. From a visitor point of view going there the stadium sucks on the visitor side and some of the rules they have make you feel as if you were going to be searched and inspected for a possible hole in your underware and made to leave if you did.

Barney, I appreciate your POV, however looking at D-B's schedules in the 60s and 70s, the only schools added were Sullivan Central and Sullivan East until the arrival of South and North in 1980. Year in and year out opponents stayed the same plus Oak Ridge was a fixture and then other teams from Knox every now and then. Who challenges Maryville on their schedule year in and out other than Alcoa? Heritage? Blount? Did they hurt the Rebels? Don't get me wrong, I am by no means a D-B defender, however they seem to have always scheduled well.  IMO the major metro area teams have an upper hand (Knox, Nash, Memphis, Chatt) and being close to one of these sure helps. D-B is a great school, with a great history that has fallen short in winning the gold ball. That can be said for probably 98% of the high schools in this state. Is it because of the failure of the system? (control of middle school programs) Is it because of the commitment level of coaching or lack of coaching ability? There has been varied success of teams in upper East TN in other sports, baseball, volleyball, basketball and of course Elizabethton and Greeneville in football. So why not football for everyone else here in NET? Lot's to discuss and debate. With all that said, I hope the Indians pull the shocker of all shockers on Friday and good luck to all R1 teams and as always....GO WOLVES!!!

One could look at it that way however if the Indians would have taken care of business against Jeff. Co. this wouldn't be a discussion. Yes I do believe DB is better than Jeff. Co. On a side note, I believe the quick change of classifications caused alot of headaches for scheduling for West Ridge. I hope after the current contracts expire they beef up the schedule with some Knox area teams.

You are correct. They lost to two JC’s they had an opportunity to try win both or at least one them.

DB's Day's were in the 40's, 50's and part of the 60's when Upper East Tennessee Schools were very good and played national powerhouses like Chattanooga City, Knoxville High, Roanoke Va and during those times Elizabethton, Bristol, Morristown , Oak Ridge and Johnson City were real good teams also. A lot has changed since then. I watched DB play William Blount play DB two weeks ago and they only caught fire 2 minutes before halftime but that was enough to put WB to bed for the rest of the night. I sat on the top row with SWVAHavokFan and I could count the number of DB fans there which was only around 200 to 250 tops. I'm sure not many people wanted to see that either but the band wasn't there which seems to be a big draw when they do.
