It looks like this is SP vs everyone else. Clay County has fans coming out of the wood work. What’s that thing they say about blood in the water? Someone smells it in places they typically don’t.

I guess when you’ve got 7 silver and 5 gold it draws a lot of support for the other guy!

South Pitt is 1A Milan…Lots of players but choke when it matters. Have had several teams that should’ve won it but came up short. Watched 2011 team from Wayne beat them in state game that had no business simply because they appeared to play together. SP has always had the athletes but offense never shows up in big games. Last year was downright a durable offense with how end of game was handled. Maybe this year with them passing they may have learned how to spike the ball shock a few along the way and get back to State. I will take them by 7 this week. My pick is still Gordonsville though. I’m just keeping it real.

I can tell you this much, SP may be “down” by their standard but anyone who has a kid like 2 sitting at running back is ain’t down too much.  The biggest factor will be how quickly the Dawgs can adjust to the speed of him and others.  I believe we’ve got kids that can run with the Pirate skill players but the most difficult thing is seeing it live because unless it’s 1’s on 1’s between a few guys in practice Clay hasn’t seen that kind of quickness all season.  Not to mention that 2 has physical maturity, strength, and explosiveness to boot.  Gotta keep him bottled up.  On the other hand, SP may throw all over us, but I love our secondary against anybody, especially on the deep ball.

Clay better have some men back there because #28 for Pirates is just that. If South Pitt gives that cat the ball you won’t stop him. #2 is a man as well but I’m telling you #28 is one of best in 1A & 2A. They have another one too that’s smaller but fast. Wouldn’t surprise me though if they try to run it 90% game though. They are notorious for running the ball even when it don’t work. I’m just keeping it real

Agree with you on these points.

Back-n-the day, us old fellers had a practice/game field surrounded with hedge bush & a dungeon. Old Pirate says things a smart better now, but players then were way tougher. Recon time has made of HEEP of a difference. Old Pirate says, Pirates win 1+. YepReconSo

Which Pirate team will show up tomorrow night? THE ONE BEFORE Dade County or after Dade County?
Reason for optimism: The Pirates players, although green with experience, have been on big stages before. The skill players for South Pittsburg are hard to scheme against providing enough time given by the line to make a play.

Reason for concern: Throwing out the Oakland game, after the Pirates played Dade County, they have seemingly turned the page week by week with subtle improvements. They won their next games, excluding national powerhouse Oakland, by a score of 216-26. All sounds great until you look at the competition. Those 4 teams the Pirates played during that stretch have a combined win/loss record of 12-27. What will the new and improved Pirates team do against a quality team giving up only 9 points a game.

Prediction: The Pirates will always have one thing in their favor the majority of times they play an opponent and that’s an advantage at the skill positions. Look for the SP coaches to get their athletes in 1 on 1 situations and apply pressure on defense. Everyone watches Kelly and Hunter but key in on speedster Chris Jackson this week to make some electrifying plays.

Final: SP-35

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
