I think this game will be closer than many think, and not because of SD. It really didn't matter how much skill position talent OR had last year (they had plenty). That offensive line didn't have a pulse, and those skilled RBs had no where to run. QB wasn't good enough to bail them out either. They were fortunate that they had such a good defense last season, because that's the one thing that kept them in so many games.

If they aren't improved up front (or at QB), they aren't going to be that much better overall in 2022. Although they don't have to be that much better, when you look at how many close games they lost last season. Cummings is the real deal though. Even if 2022 isn't their year, they won't be down for long.

The OL has a faint pulse now. Ha.  They have a long way to go, but there is now evidence that they are being coached.  They know which way to step now and who they are supposed to block.  You think I'm joking, but this IS improvement.  I think every position group has shown improvement under Cummings, including qb.   The qb that left probably had more talent, but this kid we have now is very decisive and takes care of the football.  Again, baby steps, but improvement.

I'm with you. Until I see a vast improvement from our OL, I'll remain skeptical that we can just come out and "handle" a team, so to say. I don't care if we have Walter Payton in his prime, if he is getting hit right when he gets the ball, it don't make a dang bit of difference. I agree about Cummings, though. We will eventually get where we need to be, even if we look subpar tonight. I'm definitely not expecting no blowout. I'd love to see it, but I'm a realist too.

Good assessment.  There should be some improvement in both positions.  However, we will struggle against teams with good (and big) line play.  I still think the game will be closer that what the pundits at 5 Star Preps are calling it.  I hope I am wrong.

Oak Ridge does NOT look like a mediocre 5A team tonight, I will be surprised if they don't make a serious playoff run.

Oak Ridge has improved very much.

South Doyle has regressed just as much.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
