I am willing to bet that the rumors of Maryville's demise are a little exaggerated. Sounds like they did OK with Ensworth, which is usually a pretty solid contender in the private class. All their losses last year were to really good teams, including two that won their class state championship. They may not be as deep as they have been, but the guys they put on the field will be pretty good and well coached. Looking forward to watching the Oak Ridge scrimmage on Friday, will be a chance for both teams to get some good work in....

Three that won their class - Alcoa, West, Oakland.

Against Alcoa Maryville was driving for a potential win but a huge sack on 3rd down and interception that was returned for a touchdown was the door slammer.  Against West Maryville was behind 24 18 with the ball but turned it over. West drove for a touchdown with a few minutes to go to put it away 31 18. The Cleveland loss was very disappointing.  Oakland just kicked Maryvilles butt.

The only thing I hate about high school football is that there isn't anyone reporting on what's happening in team news during the off season such as transfers, interviews with coaches, when spring practices are and much more. Most things we hear are something third hand through the grapevine. If it were college football those fans are filled with information overload. There seems to be a big void there for the high school fan like all of us on here.

Bearden got one of those guys on YouTube who takes pics, and then they have someone on Twitter, and I think Ig, who posts all the news around Bearden sports, not just football. I wish more teams did that and had students who go out of their way to make sports fan pages for their high school but can't also get what they want.

It would be good projects for the media classes. I watched some basketball games online last year that did not even have an announcer. It seems like students would be great for something like that. Too busy taking Spanish I guess. Heck, maybe they could try to do them in Spanish! Lol

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
