Yeah, we'll be heavy underdogs now with Gillespie out.  We have players who can step in and assume that role, but they're both very young and may not be ready for this big of a stage yet.

Gillespie was the best all-around player on the team. I think he was averaging 18pt. a game. I'd say it cuts DB's chances by about 50%.

Gillespie didn't travel with the team it seems.

It will be a rough game for DB to win.

Found his mon on Facebook.  She posted that indeed he was not allowed to travel with the team and an appeal had been made to the principal, AD and school board.  They are driving down tomorrow.  Guess there's a possibility that if they win an appeal and they win tomorrow, maybe he could play the semifinal?  Not sure how an appeal like that could even work out.

Her video made it seem that administration already denied the appeal and they were going to support the team

Don't know what games you watched, but this season they lost to Warren Central out of Kentucky who is probably the best team in Ky, and Clarksville Academy - with Eddie Ricks who might be Mr. Basketball tonight.

This tells you how weak 4A basketball is....half of the posts are about Goodpasture.

I think Honky mixed up his words. WC best team in KY. CA top 25 team in TN and also hard to beat a good team 3x. Goodpasture beat Independence by 17 and Hillsboro in 2OT (after playing poorly).

I believe he meant to say that they play inferior opponents most of the time and the games they play where talent level is equal they are .500 ...

4A is weak ... Memphis O vs Memphis E for the gold ball

Have not been able to see what's gone on in West TN this year but have been following Independence (class of 2011!!) closely for the last couple months and can say they have no glaring weaknesses. Jett is an elite scorer, great PG play with Tylan Lewis always getting to the rack, and the Center they got #31 is the mismatch other teams cannot handle. Couple guys off the bench can come in and hit multiple 3 pointers. They've won slow-paced against Green Hill and fast- paced against Hillsboro.

Don't know about the rest of the field, but a guy can dream, right?

    • What you are saying is true about high school athletics being a privilege and not a right, but NO ONE ever knows what will happen if a case goes before a jury.  Again, I have been in a couple of jury rooms and it's always a little crazy.  That is why my prediction is you will see a settlement before the case goes to trial.
    • What rules does everyone not operate by?
    • So you want a have and have not split? Sound like the perfect ramp to elitism. Tell those rural kids that they'll never be able to compete with those urban kids. They're not good enough right? Or we could just do what travel baseball does and have tournaments every weekend and give kids big fake rings for winning a few games. The suburban public schools are typically the ones with more funds. Urban and rural schools have more in common in finances than they do with rural schools. I've taught and coached in all of it. The difference is attitude. But if you're jsut going to say you can't compete because you don't have the money then that's an excuse. Especially in basketball. The balls are the same size, the rims are the same height and size. The ball dribbles the same in some rural gym in mountains as it does in the FedEx forum. Charters come and go like a fart in the wind. They are no real threat to anyone. Magnets could be but rarely do they win either. It just hasn't been seen in Tennessee.
    • That’s a good line. Wins would be Soddy, Howard, and Ooltewah. Maybe East Ham again or Knox Central. Tyner maybe but being that late in the year it’s hard to say. I don’t think we get by Red Bank this year.    Rhea could be anywhere from 2-8 to 6-4.
    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
