The real top 10 as of 10-1-2023.  For sure to change in the coming weeks :popcorneater:

Some of these I’ve seen play and some not. So the ones I’ve not seen, I’ve chosen based on their schedule and the here say/talk from you gentlemen on Coach T.

1 Huntington not seen - going to watch soon.

2 Loretta seen - Balanced on offense, Good big OL, physical/quick on their feet, Solid QB that can run & throw, makes good decisions, receivers solid and physical, solid on defense, swarm to the ball. Legit good football team. If they stay focused, they’ll be tough to beat. Fun to watch.

3 Marion not seen - going to watch soon.

4 Riverside not seen - going to watch soon.

5 Lewis County - decent run game, Big OL, physical, defense physical, decent against the run. Pass defense could some tweaking based on the game against Loretta. Overall solid and Sneaky.

6 York seen - solid run game with some speed.  #5 the QB is quick/shifty, smart, a play maker and makes the offense go. They have another running back that is quick and shifty.  Defense is good, but I’ve seen better. I think a team that has a good running game and passing could cause some trouble to them. Overall Seem to be determined and focused. I think the game against Stone Memorial will give us a little bit more insight.

7 Hampton seen - Big/physical OL, at least 3 speedster that are not afraid to lower the shoulder if needed. QB has a good arm and can throw if needed. Most of us know that Hampton runs the ball and they do it well. Very good football team in my opinion. Pass defense against a team with quick receivers that can catch might create a small issue??? Overall Dangerous and I could see the upsetting someone in the post season and making a run.  Sneaky

8 South Greene seen - Young, Not the biggest on the OL, but strong and physical. Balanced on offense, good run game, receivers are good and aggressive. QB smart, check downs and makes good decisions when passing. Defense physical, good secondary and seem to have a thing for picking off the opposing teams passes. I think in 6 games they’ve caused 22 turnovers INT’s/fumbles. They’ve not hit their full potential yet. Is it good enough???  Young, but good. Potential is there.

9 Mt Pleasant seen - speed, size, at least one D1 player on the team. I think they have the tools to be dominant. They look like they could compete with any 2a team, but then again which team shows up?  Sneaky

10 Smith County seen a little - Going to finish watching the game against East Roberson.  Good defense.  Big & physical.  Sneaky

Some other teams like Milan & Mitchell could easily be in the 5 through 10.  Mitchell I’ve not seen yet, but they are undefeated.

Post season will separate.

I’m tired of biting my tongue. My opinion is if Fairley can play like they did against Covington then there isn’t another team in two A that can beat them. 3 teams in R7 would mop the floor with just about anybody listed in the top ten. But I think state championship winner will be from R8.

Yes I think Fairley is under the radar.  I would love to hear from A Covington fan about what they think of Fairley.  I know Covington had their way with Huntingdon in a scrimmage, granted it was a scrimmage, but  the Mustangs had a difficult time with them.  But the Mustangs have improved tremendously since that scrimmage and will be tough for anyone to beat.

I talked to a person that was at the Covington Huntingdon scrimmage. Said Covington didn’t look that impressive. Said Huntingdon was running different things trying a lot of different players in different positions and wasn’t that impressed with Covington.

I was at the scrimmage. Huntingdon’s whole line is completely different. The center, guards and tackles. All different. The defensive front, all different. It’s a totally different team. The main problem that Huntingdon had in that scrimmage was the center-qb exchange and defending the pass. Bad exchanges 4 or 5 different times. Broken coverages on defense. (That has gotten better) I’m not saying Covington was bad, but not world beaters. Saying all of that, Huntingdon isn’t the same team now as they were even in the first real game of the season.

Huntingdon completely destroyed Fairley last year in playoffs. Destroyed. I know strange things can happen in Shelby Co, but unless they got a Colorado portal class, they can’t improve that dramatically in one season.

Fairley has play 2 teams with winning records Covington and Northpoint. They lost both. The games they have won were against teams that were- 1-6, 2-6, 1-6-1, 3-4, and 3-4. I’ll buy you a soda pop if they win it all.

If Camden was playing Fairleys schedule they’d be 6-2. I’m not running Camden down in that comment. They have played quality opponents and won the games the should win and put up a ton of points.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
