Stanton Stevens couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

1) Scott Meadows - William Blount

2) Steve Brewer - Sevier County

3) Gary Householder - Seymour

4) Bill Young - Christian Academy of Knoxville

5) Jeff Wattenbarger - Cumberland County (if that counts as East TN)

These five men would make the best upper-level college head coaches.

You cannot have a legitimate list of the "best" head coaches in East Tennessee and not include George Quarles of Maryville and Graham Clark of Dobyns-Bennett...

Period

Roll Tribe Roll

Quarles and Clark were left off for a reason.

Quarles-

1) Took an already winning program, let's see him take Midway or Heritage to the Murf'.

2) Players secretly hate him.

3) Has a huge discipline problem.

Clark

1) Has never taken his team to play on the turf of MTSU.

2) Plays in a seriously weak region.

3) Also has large discipline problems.

i dont see where you find that quarles has a problem with discipline, give me an example of when this has been a problem, in all occasions that i can think of quarles has done everything that he should have done in all disciplinary situations, and im sure all the other coaches you have named arent loved by all of their players, so i feel that is an unfair statement

1. Thats true. But they are still a team that can play with anyone, any year, with what I take as below overall talent. Clark plays good team ball and is very disciplined, thats why they do so well with what they have. Overall, there are very few major prospects that come from DB football

2. Overall Region 1 5A is weak top to bottom. But, you always have a Jeff Co, Sevier Co, and Science Hill that can be pretty tough. Sevier Co won the 5A state championship so the best team or teams in Region 1 5A can play with anyone.

3 It is obvious that you have no knowledge of Clark's coaching methods. He basically told our best player last year before the quarterfinals to serve the punishmet handed down to him or leave, Clark does not back down. Most of our passing offense was designed for this player and he was always double teamed, and still took over any game he wanted to. In other words, nobody walks all over Clark, nobody will misbehave without punishment. In fact DB is know for playing with class.

And again Tezcatlipoca, you are wrong. And again, you are always negative about any team that you don't like. I still want to know what your team is. If it is William Blount, you have no room to talk.

Oh and one more point. Meadows is an awesome coach. I think he is a great guy and he is nimber 1 on your list. But, Clark is not. How do you explain the fact that Meadows (with more talent on theis past years team than DB) can't beat Clark. I mean everyone had Jeff Co as number #1 in Region 1 5a due to their returning talent. Again, Clark is good at using the talent he has, and that talent will never be as high as Riverdale and similar schools. I mean look at the schools around DB, most are not that great, same talent, just good coaching and good team ball at DB and that is why Clark is worth his weight in gold.

Now, explain how Meadows is number 1, but can't beat Clark with more talent on his own field. We are all waiting. Clark is 3-0 vs Meadows.

1) "Took an already winning program"......Good point thecatlicksahola, Murvul was hotter than a $4 dollar pistol the first 4 games in 2000, at 0-4. Ol' GQ took tha Rebs to tha' "Murf'" that year. The only time ever in the history of the TSSAA, a team started 0-4, won 11 in a row and a gold ball.

2) "Players secretly hate him"........They sure do. That's why they have such a small squad. Last count, I believe there is something like 145 in the program. I wished the players hated him more, like Vince Lombardi's players hated him.

3) "Has a huge discipline problem.".......Yeah, but if that gets too huge they don't play anymore. I wanted all those discipline problems play at Central last year, but they didn't. I also wanted to see an all-state RB play his senior season at MHS. GQ has lost control. I know more than GQ. But he is still 63-9, with 3 gold footballs.

825 Lawrence.

Go Rebs.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
