Smallest Gym in Tennessee

That was the rest room! Just kidding. South Pittsburg has the oldest active gymn in the old SVC except for maybe Grundy Co's. Everyone in the valley built new High schools around 1980, Sequatchie Co, Bledsoe Co., Whitwell, Jasper. Sale Creek and Lookout Valley already had a relatively new gymn at the time.

rlh, you obviously havent been to grundy county's gym lately! we built a new school in 1998(the year that our girls won the state championship). It's big and its pretty!! just a lil fyi

Was wondering if anyone remembers the old Blanche and Boonshill gyms. I had the chance to play in those gyms in the 70's. They were really small with hardly any lighting. That was the days of no 3 point line and 6 on 6 girls.

Does anybody remember the old Scotts Hill gym? The players on the bench were out on the floor and you had to practically step over people to go to and come back from the consession stand. I liked that place though because alot of great players before my time have played there and that has to mean something.....

 

 

As for the new gym..... They hosted the District 14 A tourney last year and it was great.

Saw and coached in Scotts Hills old gym. That is basketball atmosphere esp when you had to see through the smoke from the concession stand. Great place though, best french fries in west TN

I'll tell you one of the nicer gyms in the Chattanooga area... Ooltewah.

here at oliver springs the floor is already smaller then most schools, but the big difference is that the fans are practically on top of you. the student section overflows onto the floor. i played the last three years and when the other team takes the ball out students literally lean out and talk junk in there ear. my dad played for clinton in the 60's and he's told me stories of when they played oakdale that they had to play them during the day because it was played outside. He also told me of the gym in marlow he played at when he was in middle school which had a wood stove in one corner so the out of bounds went straight and then curved around the stove. thats definitely a home court advantage.

hey what is the big deal about the clarksburg rockets having the smallest gym in tn so what does it matter it is always packed thats why we call it the cracker box haha

It has to be Clarksburg. The last game I went to see ther the fire marshall had to come out because it was so packed. No hatin on the Burg though. They have the most town support of any basketball team I have ever seen.(maybe because it is the only sport they really play)

Gotta be Maplewood, where I coached for 22 years. It is pitiful that Nashville will not build them a new gym. Although, the full court press works well in there and the BIG panther on the wall doesn't hurt any, ha.

Van Buren does not have a small gym. Their gym is not new either. They got a new floor about 2 years ago, but the gym was built in 91 when they built the school. They are just a A school so I think it is a good size for A. They can put their high school, middle school, and elemetary in that gym with lots of room left over.

alcoa has a pretty nice gym. the best by far around this area. it can seat somewhere from 2500-3000 and it's really nice. you should come and see it sometime.

I've been reading this thread and whoever says Hermitage Springs can sit 1000 people has smoked the biggest joint known to man. I'm guessing MAYBE 250 if you stand people up. And your right devilfanatic, Dodson Branch Elementary in Jackson Co. is the smallest ever. You can't get enough people in there to put out a fire in a trashcan.
