  1. Ed, heres the deal.. yes our junior teams have done sightly better the last 2 seasons but why? Right now, TN currently has 7 wrestlers wrestling in D1. 8 if we count Oliver as a TN wrestler. This year’s graduating class of seniors has 7 TN wrestlers that signed with D1 programs. That is a huge jump in the number of D1 wrestlers that TN inormally produces each year. This year’s Junior class is even better and looks to have about 10 D1 wrestlers and then it really starts to explode with this year’s sophomore and freshman classes as they looks to have about 15 to 20 D1 wrestlers for each class. Tn wrestling is exploding and we are starting to become very competitive at the national level. Go back and watch some of the matches from National Prep, Willie wouldn’t stop gushing about TN Wreslting. Now why is TN wrestling exploding right now and jumping levels and why did our USA Junior team do slightly better the past 2 years? The answer to that goes back a little over a decade ago, when Don Barnett took over TNAAU and slowly every year he improved that organization until it became one of the best run, most competitive, largest youth wrestling program in the country today. TN wrestling interest and numbers are growing as fast as any state in the country and the quality of our wrestling is exploding. Every high school coach in this state should call up Don and the current TNAAU board and tell them thank you! I would guess that almost every kid that stood on the TSSAA podium was a product of the TNAAU system and it is the TNAAU that has become the feeder program to TSSAA WRESTLING!!

  2. If you traded a couple of those games out for you chicken 6A neighbors they would be 9-1.

  3. Just now reading this..and I’ve read through this several times.. correct me if I’m wrong purplewrestler but all fooseball said was that he would not trust any kid to travel with Bowers based off the stiries he has heard. I agree with fooseball and I don’t see how that is personally demeaning to Bowers at all. I think you took his comment to mean something much more Insidious than what fooseball actually meant. There has been a multitude of stories of kids on Bowers run trips being very unsupervised and kids being housed in very unsafe and unclean environments. Just ask any of the kids or parents about where Bowers had them stay last year for Junior Duals. Bowers has a pattern of cutting corners at the cost of the safety and well being of the kids to save money. There is a running joke with the kids that go on Bowers trips and the size of the cockroach army’s they will have to face. Plus, Bowers has a really hard time getting the volunteers that are needed to supervise the kids so there are stories of kids being very unsupervised on these trips since he alienates most everyone who he needs to volunteer. Also, nobody and I mean NOBODY trust Bowers with handling money so nobody wants to donate to TWA and parents question every dollar they give him. Coaches were promised lunches last year at Fargo because Bowers raise the price last year on all the kids for the very specific reason to help feed the coaches but not a single lunch or any food was provided for the coaches by Bowers. Last year’s Fargo trip even though Bowers has tried to claim it was a cluster mess and total disaster was not only the most successful Fargo preformance ever by TN but also after we surveyed the kids and parents that went and the parents that didn’t the most successful, safe and greatest wrestling trip that all of them went on according to them. Even coaches that have been going with TN for decades said it was by far the best most unified TN contingent that we’ve ever taken to Fargo and we did that inspite of Bowers and having to fight Bowers the entire time. Now after all that success we had last year, Bowers wants to change our very successful Fargo operations model so that we give him total control of the trip when he has clearly shown he is not capable of running safe and successful trips.

  4. Covington and Westview will have the best chances in AA. Also don’t sleep on South Side either, I know they’ll lose a 2,000 point scorer, but they have a talented freshman that will be really good next year. I know the Westview/South Side matchups are great games, and I don’t expect Coach McNeal to have an average team next year and use Miller as the scapegoat, they’ll be good as well.

  6. Please restrict threads concerning AAU and travel ball teams to their provided space... the coachT heading (logo) features the phrase "Powered by high school sports", and this forum is "High School Baseball". Not trying to be overbearing, but baseball season (HS) is right around the corner, and the appropriate AAU forum has been provided for.

  7. Fellow Govs fans and wayward prognosticators, I heard some disconcerting news through the clothes line (and Ethel's parachute panties). I have been given to understand that Supreme Chancellor Shad wont have real scrimmages this spring. Instead, he will focus on 7 on 7 work. This is interesting because Shad has said that 7 on 7s are a waste of time. Maybe he changed his mind on the subject? I don't have any beef with 7 on 7 scrimmages, but they are a poor substitute for real scrimmages in full pads. Discuss.

  9. It's funny you mentioned this because I was talking to Coach Story about the first year game being 17-0 this morning at Hardee's and he quickly changed the conversation to the next year when Maryville won 62-14. His very words to me was that WB was so awful that we had our third string in and they still couldn't stop us. He had the funniest look on his face then said what do you do in a situation like that, "tell your kids not to score".

  10. People keep saying to give solutions, and some have been thrown out there if you can navigate through all posts about Bowers. Like BQ said, treat it like any other national tournament. Let the kids pay their entry, and then everything else is the parent’s responsibility to take care of their child the way that’s best for them. It’s been posted that just last year the price was significantly less than the $1500 being asked for this year. I didn’t see everyone in an uproar over last year’s price. Maybe the simplest solution is just to copy what worked in the past. No need for change if you have something in place that works.

  11. That would only be because of what they feel about him, NEVER about anything he has done to kids. So with no FACTS this is a lie. And you spreading something that you don't know for sure is shameful. I can tell you, my son has been around him and his family for 2 years and I (along with everyone at the school) trust him 100% in keeping our kids safe. So again, say what you want about the cost of the trip. About the weigh in, about how he is handling USA wresting, but leave the lies about him not being responsible around the kids out of it. That is just a hurtful statement that could go well beyond this PUBLIC forum. None of this should even be discussed on this forum anyway. Everyone has the ability to vote members on and off the board. Don't like how things are, volunteer your time or find someone that is willing to do this much time, and vote them in. I don't have an issue with that. I have had a couple conversations with you around wrestling, and have thought a lot of you and your family. Your son is top notch, not only as a wrestler but a young man as well. But your statement on here is so far out of line, that I cannot let that part slide, and yes you should be ashamed.

  14. I have to disagree with 3 and 4. I dont think Lexington will be any better than they were this year. They lose #20 and #22 to graduation and transfer. Guard play will be weak outside of #23. Taylor will hold down her end as usual. CC loses the point but bring back 2 guards who arent what they have been hyped up to be. I think Dyersburg has a say so in 13AA and Covington SHOULD be back in 15AA. I am not counting out South Side, i think theyll fly under the radar with the two bigs returning and im sure they will bring in some good talent as they always do.

  15. 1. This isn’t a thread about officiating. Yes there were calls missed both ways including a big walk by Houston in the last minutes under the goal that was not called and resulted in a 3 pointer by Houston. There is another thread on officiating, so if you want to gripe, pout or make excuses due to officiating, please use that thread & not this thread I started. 2. The final didn’t end with this call. A player made a 3 point shot with 2 seconds left & a tough defense then forced a 5 second call on the inbounds to end the finals. 3. This thread was created to celebrate a State Championship by a very worthy team. There were several really good teams who were also just as good and maybe just as worthy, but only one team can put all the pieces of the puzzle together (bad calls and all) and walk away as Champions. History will show that this year it was Bradley Central. 4. Best wishes to you all as you prepare for next year.

  16. I have no dog in this hunt and have no clue where WBHS even is. But this is a very entertaining thread even though it is confusing to outsiders like me. Shadroach is a colorful character and I am enjoying the attempts of many to squash the roach. He just keeps scurrying along. Maybe Shadroach has a future as a mystery writer.

  17. I saw the boys play Catholic last night in the district basketball tournament. Now, that is how you compete! The tallest player on the WB roster is 6'3" and Catholic has two guys that are 6'9" and 6'11". WB outrebounded and outhustled them for most of the game. Our 5'9" point guard fearlessly attacked the paint and guys stepped in to take charges from Catholic's big guys. Unfortunately, WB lost a tight one in the end, but it's about more than wins and losses. It is about giving your all and wanting to win. I saw Catholic fans applauding WB's players when they walked off the court because WB had earned their respect. I just wish our football team would compete like that and give that level of effort. If you give your all you will always have a chance.

  18. Maryville has a really good team and Joe Anderson is a great player, he's a good leader, shoots the ball well, he's very unselfish and he doesn't force shots or turn the ball over. You can't control the officiating and at some point every team has benefited from a call here or there in a game.

  19. An open letter to all the dads with current or future ballplayers: Gentlemen, YOU are the CEO of Your Son Inc. This position bestows on YOU an enormous weight and burden. There is no one to help you with your decisions, YOU are an island. The decisions YOU make will be part of the formation of YOUR son for the rest of his life. YOU are the wind in his sails YOU are his navigator most importantly YOU are his rudder to steer him in calm seas and gales as well. He is blessed with all the knowledge YOU have shared with him. His heart and mind are strong and his eyes are clear. He looks up to YOU and observes and stores away to the tiniest detail of YOUR actions. He will certainly be the man YOU form him to be. He has generally only four years of High School eligibility. As the CEO of Your Son Inc. YOU MUST guide him YOU MUST put him in the best situation to be successful! Anything less is abject failure. If YOU decide to stay in an abysmal situation then throw away your scabbard and stay and FIGHT for him to your last breath. If YOU decide to journey to a different land, run don't walk. They're are great adventures to be experienced on the other side of the mountain. YOUR young warrior will be welcomed by the army there. The sand in the hour glass ebbs away even as YOU read this. Make haste make a plan. Make the decision that ensures YOUR son, YOUR flesh and blood the best opportunity to be successful. Listen not to the fools that would call YOU a coward. Remember, The weak and the timid will stay back and defend the past while the brave and aggressive charge headlong into the future.
