  2. I enjoyed sitting next to you tonight@FargoStrut It was a blast! Mattox is one of the best kids I’ve ever seen wrestle….period. That whole group they’ve got coming in is awesome. For me though, I don’t care if their group is better or not. Let’s just make sure they wrestle each other and enjoy it while it lasts. That level of competition is what raises the bar for TN wrestling.

  3. Just got back from watching the D-2 championships and was impressed with the McCallie 8th graders. Those kids helped their team to both the dual and individual championships. However, after being around AAU for several years and thinking about Cleveland's incoming freshman, I think the Blue Raiders 8th graders may give the EBE incoming freshman a run for their money. Thoughts? McCallie 8th graders - Jaxon Lane, Cainan Williams, Dylan Villers, Cooper Ledbetter Cleveland 8th graders Boone Maughon, Dominic Cordero, Kellen Sanders, Mattox High, Rock Shurette

  4. Congrats to McCallie for the team championship and to all National Prep qualifiers (state finalists) and wildcard hopefuls! For those interested, below are the National Prep rankings for each weight class heading into this weekend. There will certainly be some shake-ups as state tournament/qualifier results come in from this weekend: Rankings | 88th Annual National (nationalprepwrestling.org) There are currently 5 nationally ranked "Fab 50" teams in the field: #1 Wyoming Seminary (PA), #2 Blair Academy (NJ), #6 Malvern Prep (PA), #13 Lake Highland Prep (FL), and #31 Green Farm Academy (CT). This will be a great opportunity for Tennessee athletes to make a statement about the continued growth of the sport in our state!

  5. I’m gonna say what we’re all thinking but just don’t say. We’ve all yelled “stalling” at some point. Or at wanted a ref to make a certain call. But Father Ryan fans are just obnoxious with it. Yelling for it if the kid takes just a couple steps back. Immediately after their kid gets a takedown. Etc. The pretentiousness is on a new level. Maybe even more so than Cleveland. maybe

  6. Hang on. Let’s see how this plays out.

  7. In the years and the last year of 8 AA , this year's White County team at best would have finished 4th.

  9. I don’t know @littlejohnny but I think I have an idea who he is. He’s just excited as we all are. It’s been 31 years since McCallie has held that trophy. Both Baylor and Ryan will be back. Just glad we could join the conversation again. Makes it more fun and raises the competition.

  10. The state will also be sending their 1st female from a Tennessee HS (2nd overall behind Avery Kibelbek who went to Wyoming Seminary) to compete at National Preps. Aliya Whaley (current Junior, 2x TSSAA medalist, 2023 TSSAA runner up) will be competing out of Knoxville Catholic at 152 pounds as the #2 or #3 seed.

  11. Have you ever been to an Iowa Hawkeye match in Iowa City? They begin to call for stalling during the introductions.

  12. Definitely have a winning team formula. The key is having enough average wrestlers to get 3rd in weights where there are only 2 good wrestlers. They are doing it better than the rest. Congrats

  13. Looks like ol Carl was right, McCallie gonna win it on the backside. Brought 13 outta 14 and all 13 placed. FR and especially Baylor have a more thoughbreds at this time but McCallie had a few of their own and plenty of pack mules to carry the load. Congrats McCallie parents and wrestlers on a great season! Yes it is. Several semis match gonna be big as far as team points go. Of the 3 teams that can win, FR has fewest with 8 in semis but a very realistic shot at putting AT LEAST 7 in the finals while Baylor has 10 and McCallie has 11 in the semis.

  16. I think just doing 8 Regions would keep it more honest because the Region play the true seeding would be accurate. When you have a tough District and the other District is terrible teams actually get penalized for winning District Championships. Number of games would probably be inline you just wouldn't have a District Tournament due to more teams.

  17. Good Lord, grow up. Guy was a Parade All-American with the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, played at the highest levels of college basketball, and had a successful coaching career. And he’s a Navy veteran to boot! If I had accomplished 1% of what he had on the basketball court, I would be shouting it from the mountain tops! Sounds like you’re a bitter boy who could gain perspective from someone like Mo but, instead, you choose to tell someone in the 80-year old range they “wouldn’t say that to my face…it would get ugly.” Parents must be proud. And for the record…I don’t know Mo, never met him. 18. If Dyersburg presses they will beat any team there by double digits, IMO. They are not a good half court team, IMO but they did have some good possesions in the half court but they are much better playing fast and creating space in the open court. They have a lot of talent. Prayers for Crawford as well that she gets well. I thought South Gibson would press some but they didn't and Crockett was turning it over some in the half court. South Gibson plays good defense and I predict they will be really good the next four years as their Jr. High is loaded. South Gibson is not a good half court team either. They need to try to get in transition more and play faster, IMO. Really good District. Will be interesting the next two games Monday Night. Y'all's District will likely replay each other in the Region. Dyersburg I just don't think can be touched around here when they are engaged. Credit to Obion for hitting big shot after big shot and staying in the game. Great shooting night and performance. Crockett played well as their defense really created a lot of havoc. The girl guarding Dunn up top kinda set the tone. Thought Dunn handled the pressure pretty good but I thought Crockett's defense was just a little better than South Gibson's. South Gibson's buckets seemed harder to come by. 14 for Crockett is a big time player.

  19. McKenzie loses tonight in Championship game and that puts them and Wayne Co on same side of bracket in region. That should be a good win or go home game in Region semifinals

  21. I agree, being spread like it is, I don't see how the TSSAA is making any money. 4 and 5 team districts, an entire football class in D2 made up of just 12 teams. In my opinion it looks bad. They should go back to 3 classes in basketball for DI, two classes for DII, in football 4 classes in DI and two classes in DII. But alas. it's not my decision.
