mcfan10
Belfast in Marshall Co burnt down & was never rebuilt. I don't think they played football and I think their name was the Rebels.
cbg
I know that the following schools have closed in Davidson County: North West Central Bellevue Peabody Demonstration Duncan DuPont Cumberland Joelton Goodletsville Litton East Pearl Cameron Donelson Two Rivers Madison Howard Cohn The combinaton of the interstate highway system dividing neighborhoods and "NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS" closing forced many families to make the move to other counties. IMO the great social experiment of the 60's,70's & 80's to form comprehensive high schools has killed what was once a great public education system in Nashville. o21putt
cbg, I couldn't have said it better myself. The public schools in Nashville during the 50's and early to mid 60's served us all very well. Maybe someday we can have enough wisdom to get back to that but I really doubt it. Would be nice if the old adage of the more things change the more they stay the same seems to have gone by the wayside. Now I am rambling. Sorry, please forgive. ravinglunatic
Some others in northeast Tennessee were: Fall Branch Cardinals - combined with Boones Creek Bars (Daniel boone's spelling of Bears) and Sulphur Springs to form Daniel Boone Blountville Tigers - combined with Holston to form Sullivan Central. Mary Hughes, Bluff City and Holston Valley combined to form Sullivan East. Lynn View Lynxes and Ketron Wildcats combined to make Sullivan North. Played at most of these places and the one thing I remember most is the Basketball Arena at Lynn View. Tile Wall on one side and the student section on the other and the trainer that held up the sign that said "Go Big Green" whenever they went onto thier full court press. There is a lot to be said for the larger schools but some of the flavor was lost. Akkkkk.....getting old is for the birds. Church Hill Panthers and Surgoinsville Eagles combined to form Volunteer. Rogersville Warriors and Bulls Gap combined to form Cherokee Sullivan (referred to as Sullivan West) Pirates was combined with part of the Sullivan Central district to form Sullivan South. Jonesboro was combined with, I believe, Lamar and maybe one or two others to form David Crockett. Erwin Blue Devils now Unicoi County - may have been consolidated with another school. Not all of the schools mentioned played football. I could not be sure about some of them so I did not attempt to name the ones that did and the ones that did not. During the 10960's, the library (they called it the "liberry") at Litton burned down. It was a tragedy. Both books were destroyed and one had pages that were not "colored in" yet. BTW. That's a joke. KWoodroof
KWoodroof, I played at Overton. The name Ernest Smallen rings a bell but I still can't place the school. Just a mental block I guess. OK, you probably would never have played Cumberland in anything, excpet baseball perhaps. The only AAA schools Cumberland played was Maplewood, something of a neighborhood rivalry, and Pearl, in the Metro Bowl in '68. Not a great match: Cumberland was an undefeated AA team; Pearl was a one loss AAA team. The one loss was to MBA, whom Pearl led in the 3rd quarter. As you may have guessed, I'm something of a Cumberland buff....
EZBeingGreen
KWoodruff, didn't Coach Smallen coach at Goodlettsville? The name sounds familar. Did you say where you went to school?
randy3116
I remember three high schools in the Kingsport area that are long gone: Ketron High Wildcats; Lynn View High Lynxes; and Sullivan High (Pirates??) If I'm not mistaken, both Ketron and Lynn View were turned into middle schools.

Couldn't possibly agree more...there are no neighborhood rivalries anymore. The zones changing constantly hasn't helped either. There will never be anymore games like when Madison, Goodletsville, Litton, Donelson, etc. played each other because it's not my neighborhood vs. yours anymore.
