Strong Rumor............Oak Ridge vs Maryville Week 0 2007

Different teams match up differently. Ooltewah got beat by Farragut last year 35-7 and Oak Ridge beat Farragut 30 something to not much. You would think Ooltewah would get raped by Oak Ridge but Ooltewah won. You can't judge how you have done against William Blount on how you would beat everyone in 5a. Thats my opinion. I'm not saying Ooltewah, DB or Oak Ridge would beat you guys but it would be better competetion. I'm happy that Maryville is in the top 25.

Once again an Ooltewah fan lumping his team with the heavy hitters . True , Oak Ridge is down this year , and Ooltewah might actually have a chance to play more than one game in the playoffs this year , but I find it quite humorous that you keep lumping a team that has NEVER , EVER won anything ... nothing , zilch , nada , with 2 teams like Oak Ridge and DB in your ongoing quest to convince yourself and other Ooltewah fans how lucky Maryville is they don't play you . I GUESS YOUR " PRETEND WORLD " where you belong in the 5A elite , and you would drill the most successful team in the state this last decade is a fun place to be ... but it's not reality . :thumb:

No argument from me on that. I have contended for many years that GQ is unequalled as a coach in the state. The cycle I was speaking of was actually in Oak Ridge. I think, coaching staffs bring different philosphies and that soon, the team will begin to buy into the one being presented to them now.

I just hope it turns quickly, because Oak Ridge fans are ... well ... they like to win. :thumb:

You know Tank you make a good point about cycles. Apparently, Mairvul must be in a really good one.

I thought our cycle would end when last year's seniors (Tallent, Tucker, etc.) became seniors, because when they were in middle school they got pounded by Duck, Warren, and the Alcoa crew, lost to W.B., and a couple of more. But good coaching, work habits, discipline, player development, natural growth, and of course a little recruiting  worked wonders. In high school the tables completely turned. I honestly believe G.Q. has a way with cycles.

Sounds like Meadows is father like son.

Ole Dad

Govman......I love you like a brother but at some point you have to back off that orange and blue kool-aid. The confrontation and comments from Meadows at mid field with GQ did happen. I remember GQ looking with astonishment...yes I was out there. There has never been a question about Meadow's coaching ability it's just the baggage. I cringed when WB hired him but it was obvious they were desparate for a quality FB coach. Why do you think Meadows was run off at Alcoa. It wasn't because he couldn't coach.

i dont know where you got that from his quote, all he was saying was that different teams match up with other teams differently, nowhere was he saying ooltewah matches up with maryville, you just draw it out of context so you can belittle someone else on here, go back and read his quote, he said farragut beat ooltewah twice last year and oak ridge thumped farragut twice, so wouldn't you think that ooltewah would stand no chance against oak ridge last year, but somehow ooltewah won, they just matched up with oak ridge better than they matchedup with farragut....all ImaOwl was trying to do was point out, that maryville might not run through 5a like all of their fans predict, he has always said yeah they would win 95% of their games, but the road would be much tougher....and ooltewah has played more than one game in the playoffs quite a few years

Bah, I think the T$$AA would do the right thing, listen to folks and have Maryville in Region 2. Have the other two teams in Blount flip a coin for the move to Region 1.

There's another side to this discussion. If the increase in the projected student populations at both Morristown East and West hold true then both of these will move up to 5A as well. If this happens, would the TSSAA simply assign West, East and Maryville to one of the current regions or would it force them to realign both regions completely?

I really think and hope I am wrong but I see a staff shake up at Maryville before the 09 season. You know Gaylor would like to be a head coach again. Ellis may just want to retire from coaching. Pinkerton may want to also spend time with his two young kids and wife. I heard Thompson has sold his home and is renting with a son on the SC team he would like to see more of during hs career under Spurrer.

I think GQ plans to stay a while but you know some college will catch a clue and offer him a great opportunity someday. And for those who don't think he could do it, I would say he could beat Phil and Randy Sanders any day of the week in creative play calling at the D1 level and his special teams are as an effective weapons as his offences and defenses have been in the past 110 games. He has also developed some pretty good QB's and WR's during his tenure at MHS. Coach White and a few of the other younger coaches could also become head coaches if they decided to apply. I would like this run to go on for the rest of my days, but I am a realest and know every good thing comes to an end or changes from what was.

But if little changes, Maryville will climb near the top of 5A without question. Most teams they have faced could not even compete for 4 qtrs and they have beat some pretty good teams and have only lost where they have turned the ball over at least 5 times or play real sloppy. I only have seen one beat down since 98 and that was to heritage. People who have not watched this brand of two platoon Football don't understand it. I love it!

DQ has proved many times over what an incredible football mind he has. It is truly very very impressive that a mind like that is still at the HS level. The kids deserve credit also but anyone who can get more out of players than even they think they have to give understands more than X's and O's and will serve those young men for years to come.

A game like Maryville for Oak Ridge that would replace a team like Jeff Co. would be an exciting development. It really makes a lot of Dollars and sense. The best thing for people like me as a fan is the excitement and atmosphere you can actually feel entering the stadium. If Maryville enters our region what a great thing that would be. Maybe two games a year could happen. What a dream route to the state championship. DB Maryville, Riverdale.

We all know to be the best you gotta beat the best. As for Oak Ridge 07 and 08 will be good years with a trip to middle TN in Dec. of 08. I dont think anyone will be able to keep that from happening. What is today

October 11th 2006? Just remember you saw it here first.

Hopefully the cooler heads will prevail. All alternatives should be explored such as teams that can fill the void and even the financial considerations are important. Then after all is on the table Maryville should drop Wm Blount and never look back.

I think you mean "National Powerhouse".

I hope the coaching staff stay together for many more years. As great as George Quarles is. He is surrounded by great coaches. Maryville would go downhill big time if Ellis and Gaylor left. Ellis is not only the best offensive line coach in Tennessee. I would bet he is one of the best in the country. What he gets out of those young men is amazing. Maryville averages 212lbs a man on the offensive line this year. They were outsized all year long. But with the techniques that Ellis teaches they are doing great.
