Suggestion for TSSAA

Here's a suggestion for the higher-ups in Hermitage and schools throughout the state.

I keep hearing the propaganda and banter about how the TSSAA is for the students and athletes in Tennessee high schools and that is their #1 concern. Some of the token phrases are "school-pride", "support your team", "positive game atmosphere", etc. Well, I hate to reveal the higher ups of this fact, but not every high school in the state is in a wealthy area where the kids can afford to shell over $7 to go to a playoff game. I'd dare say the vast majority of the state's teams reside in areas where $7 is still a lot of money for a lot high school kids to pony up for a football game, especially if the team is making a run and it starts to add up. I've given up all hope of ever getting those prices down for adults who go to games, but how about a student ticket for say $3 or $4 with a student ID to encourage more students to show up to "support their team".

Please, some administrator out there take a stand and make it an enviornment to where more students can enjoy it, and not just to rake in more money.

I would wholeheartedly agree! ;)

I think they need to look into that also, children and students should have a discount. Maybe they just don't want the extra paperwork, # student tickets @ $$$, # adult tickets @ $$$. Even though you can buy tickets ahead of game time, they can just not allow admission to the event until you have the "right" ticket.

This should apply to all sports (soccer, volleyball, etc.). They should at least try it one year to see if they end up with the same total admisssions income, but actually more students/chidren were able to attend.

7 dollars is a lot for a high school ticket, but what gets me is they get 50 percent of the gate. Thats a lot of flipping money. I think they do that for all sports in the postseason, correct me if I'm wrong please. What do they need all that money for anyways? Not trying to be bush, just wondering what they do once they get all that money.

They say the majority of it goes to the insurance, but sometimes I question that. Ronnie Carter and Co. are not in it for the students, they are in it for the power. Maybe one day I will create another association that is student and athlete friendly.

This is true about the board of control, but they are also the people who have approved the salary of Mr. Carter and staff. I think the cost of the paid staff is above 350K per year plus many expenses. Now I know the cost of doing biz is high these days but the T$$AA is way out of control in this regard IMO. We had this argument last year as well. $7. Is way too much for the kids to pay. Even at UT the students can get one free ticket and no one is about money more than a UT is!

Let’s see 1000 people at one play-off game equals $7000.00. Each school gets $1750.00 and the T$$AA gets $3500 and pays the officials and pockets the rest. I don't think the officals split $1000.

Let's face it the T$$AA really is about the students right behind their bottom line and remember politics will take you farther than ability.

coacht - a lot of folks don't seem to understand the TSSAA is the associations of the schools themselves B)

But I have voiced my opinion for years that kids should never have to pay more than a dollar or two to get in the games. The game is for them after all.

IF ya think football is expensive for a high school kid (read ATM/Parent - lol!) look at a long run in the state basketball tournament for expensive!

Why not $2 to get in with a student ID? This would help a lot of mamas and papas!

I agree that $7.00 seems a little high for a high school football game. However, the last time that I checked it cost more than $7.00 for high school students to attend a movie.

It seems like the fair thing would be for the T$$AA to receive 1/3 of the gate the vistors to receive 1/3 of the gate and the home team to recive 1/3 of the gate. The home team would have to pay for the officials but would get to keep 100% of the concessions and parking.
