BACK TO THE GAME!

Ensworth pulls out the win 15-9.

It was stalemate between two great teams. Great offensive and defensive plays on both sides (most of the defensive ones were ensworth). A traditional small to medium gain offense with long drives that ate up the clock. Throw in a few near misses on big pass plays and an interception for each team. Not very many penalties led to a clean game of football. Good sound game of fundamental football with great athletes and coaches on both sides.

Great HS football game. Congrats to EHS

EHS is just good enough to squeak by week after week, proves they are a powerful team that plays hard to the end. Their depth and #10 health will determine their fate.

BA is just a few plays away from being a good team. They will improve as the season progresses and will be a factor in the playoffs.

How does Darkwa go for 308 yds and EHS only gets 15 points?

Please, somebody answer my question in my previous post regarding the game in Cookeville.

good question about number of points. Paper said that EHS had 348 total yds of offense with Darkwa having 308. BA played very tough in red zone, bend and not break. That rushing attack makes them (EHS) tough because they control the clock and the ball. This game was very close. BA had opportunities offensively, they played well, but just not good enough last night. Hope these 2 get to play again.

It was a good game, but disappointing for BA. We left to many points on the field to win. A missed extra point, missed field goal, touchdown pass called back (QB was over the line of scrimmage), stalled drive right before half . . . you have to convert those to beat a team as good as Ensworth. Darkwa was amazing -- everyone in the stadium knew he was getting the ball and we still couldn't stop him. He didn't rip off huge runs, but even on "good" defensive plays he would still fall forward for 4 yards. Ensworth is completely one dimensional at this point, but when that one dimension is that good it may not matter.

It is interesting that the score was as low as it was. Both teams moved the ball, but both stalled in the red zone. It didn't have the feel of a defensive game, but it ended up being just that. Penalties also played a huge role for both teams.

Fun game to watch. We'd love another shot . . .

The Blue Cross Bowl for IIAA is Thursday, Dec. 3rd at 7:00 pm. That's nominally better than a Tuesday, but it still sucks. I thought it was too cold (upper 30s) for a nighttime game last year at M'Boro in mid-Novmber. It easily could be subfreezing in Cookeville at night in early December....excessive dropped passes and fumbles due to the cold screw up the game.

How do you rush for 307 yards and score 15 points? Ensworth had 11 penalties for 111 yards. That's a drive stopper, since most of those penalties came on the offensive side of the ball. BA had a great game plan in making Ensworth have to drive the length of the field and not give up the big play. If it wasn't for Corey Sacks' 2nd interception of the game in the final 90 seconds down in the endzone, the paper may have had a different story this morning.

As far as Orleans, in five games he has 157 carries for 1245 yards, 14 TD. He is averaging 249 per game on 7.9 per carry.
