Alcoa @ Maryville

I knew GQ was a class act, but even more respect after seeing his post game interview. I think Alcoa is a really good team, but mairvul is on a different level from everyone else

No question about it, GQ is both a great coach and class act although I had to laugh when he said at end of interview he hopes Maryville can go over to West next week and compete with them. Something tells me he wouldn't be thrilled with a competitive 24-21 loss. 😄

Maryville will dog stomp West unless something crazy happens. I'm calling ALOT to a little. West couldn't beat Alcoa so they're not ready for MHS. Little surprise to see Maryville run away with it... Things will be fine Tornado fans with that schedule you got you will win out by 30+ each week. Well until week 10 and it's possible you could win that one going away....... If Sevier Co can only muster 35 against Bearden then they will get rolled by Maryville.

I have said it for years... if you can only run the ball without effectively throwing it then Maryville will beat you.  Alcoa basically refused to throw the football, as Rankin always does, and Gaylor stuffed the box and the boys shut the Tornadoes down.  If an opposing team can run a balanced offense then I think they will actually be able to put up some points on our stingy defense.

This I believe this might be the best Maryville team that I've seen since I became a fan in 2000. I worry about 2015 when Maryville graduates their whole defense(I believe).

I thought we would win 28-14. Biggest problem I was worried about was our QB throwing into traffic and getting intercepted which did happen but we got one of them right back on the same play which was unbelievable. The kid has speed which everyone saw when it looked like he was going down for a major loss and outrun everyone for a first down. Just has to work on the throwing for Maryville to have any chance again for the state. Also want to say Coach Rankin did the right thing when it was over and Maryville had their younger players in and he followed along and did the same thing. So many teams I see game after game have their starters in to the very last play against Maryville's third or fourth string trying to get some points on the board at the cost of not letting their younger players get some experience for the next year. It's great to play against a coach with class.

    • Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war.We had some quality wins this summer. Beat Huntingdon, Henry County, Bowling Green, Liitle Rock Central as well as a couple other quality Kentucky Teams. Westview's talent pool may not be what it has been without transfers the next few. And as far as Wilkins riding off into the sunset, where do y'all seem to think he will leave?? Wilkins is a healthy dude and he loves basketball and loves coaching. I wouldn't be suprised if he coaches a few more years. He loves the game and loves every minute of coaching.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
