2014  8-2   played 6 local teams

2013  6-4   played 5 local teams

2012  10-0  played 7 local teams

2011  10-0  played 7 local teams

2010  10-0  played 7 local teams

last year:  4-6  played 2 local teams

Anybody seeing a pattern here?

YES and they should do that to the small schools in this area because they have a bigger draw of young men than anybody in this area (besides Science Hill I guess)  The annex has stopped so no more kids.  I can't wait till the blame game is done. It the head Coaches fault, it's the AD's fault, it's the film guy's fault.  When you get out of this area and start playing teams with the same number of kids or more it get's tough to WIN!!!!  Good luck to everybody this year.

There is no "pattern" there.  If you go back before 2010 you will see that DB went 5-5 in 2009 in the first year back in the Big 8 (with more local teams), but was 10-0 in the last year of the Big East (fewer local teams) in 2008, and was a combined 72-8 over the eight regular seasons before that going back through the 2000 season.  And the trend was similar before that.  Basically they averaged 9-1 in the regular season and dominated a conference that contained a lot of Knoxville area teams.  The local teams in general are certainly not as good as the larger schools, but DB has historically done just fine against larger schools as well.

Tribal you're right, however the average fan only remembers the last few years.     Let's define average fan as a 4-6 year football fan (the time their kids are in HS), then they drop off when the kids graduate.     Again, I'm not talking about hardcore guys here on CoachT who see the big picture.      Therefore the avg fan is going to remember mopping the floor the last few years against mostly local teams, and then last year going against the big boys of 6A and getting demolished.

It's really a bit unfair to the DB players and coaches too because to some degree the TSSAA dictates your schedule.    Not DB's fault that they were forced to play locals who were outmanned and mentally beaten before the game ever even started.

What has happened to DB football is the loss of Darrell Watson as defensive coordinator. Its that simple.

But the average fan is going to know nothing about Mr. Watson.

The thing to do is put last season behind you and take care of business this year.   Back-to-back losing seasons is unprecedented at DB so I feel confident you can count on > .500 this year.  Although others on here disagree, I think that overall R1-6A is not near as strong as last year and that plays into DB’s favor as well.   It will be a good year.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
