O&B, Old Pirate’s beef is and has been fer a long Time is the TSSAA. Surely you have some resentment for GB losing a close game to a team with an ineligible star player? Cost GB Gold

Honestly OP we should have won the game and we didnt. The QB really didnt do much against us he hurt his ankle early in the game.I DO SEE your point in this one.I was more upset for our #23 not getting to play for us.He worked so hard and a injury takes him out 1 game before a 4 year straight Championship game run.

You are right if he did actually play in the game,he should have been ruled ineligible.Cannot play in those type games until all high school eligibility is fulfilled.I never heard the whole story.

He played in it. That is one hundred percent true. When I heard about it I went and found it. They were in full uniforms. They even had a TV crew announcing it. Without him they never beat SP last season much less Greenback. I think it was just a huge oversight by the TSSAA myself. It obviously slipped through the cracks.

Old Pirate watched game but his presence was a factor even with him being gimping. That still allowed Whitwell to hit on more cylinders than without him. Which in reality provided just enough to snatch victory from the Cherokees. Everyone in GB should be bothered by that. If not, check for a pulse.

It didn’t slip thru any cracks neither! Bernie simply did NOTHING when presented the film, evidence.

I’d say it also affected Cornersvilles season..... When teams don’t play by the rules, in any situation, other teams are affected. Getting beaten by a team that out plays you or is a better team is one thing. Getting cheated by by a team that doesn’t like to lose is another. IN All CASES!!! If your team isn’t good enough to win by the following the rules with the players you have, you should lose or not be allowed to play.

Rules violations or cheating affects all, some than others. Yea, SP was beat by Whitwell and SP had them on ropes in both with the 2nd loss coming as a miracle win. SP & GB were affected at the highest level. One would have another gold ball. Old Pirate knew of the violation last year before 1st meeting but never mentioned it. Prior to the 2nd meeting the TSSAA was fully aware and did nothing. SP season ended short to the hands of a team with ineligible player. Followed with GB season being ended the same way. Followed by a state championship tarnished by the TSSAA not doing their job. Yea, Old Pirate is pissed, you should be to because the integrity of the game suffered a severe hit!

Alcoa is where all aspire to be. Alcoa is in a class all to themselves, the extraordinary success brings attention to  some athletes looking to reach the top while also discourages those simply wanting to get the chance to play and prove what they can do on a more equal playing field. The active pursuit of players to short cut to success is wrong. There have been examples of this, far too many programs get away with it. Swift and harsh punishment would hurt those caught up in innocence but for the betterment of the masses. The TSSAA can do far more, plan & simple for the overall betterment of fair play.

So your saying Alcoa is where all kids aspire to be. Last time I checked they are in the public division as well. yes I know Alcoa would beat greenback  in a game but we have a kid who signed with north Carolina a few years back. This year we have a kid with 35+ d1 offers and another one that has several d1 offers with many more to come. So maybe kids are taking notice of the talent we are putting out right now and want a slice of the pie. If families are willing to move into loudon county and do it the correct way then what is the problem. Alcoa and Maryville have been doing it for a long time. Why cant other teams do it

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
