With the position coming open, who are the front runners for the job??

I think most would agree this has the potential to be a solid job due to the talent in the hallways.

Man i’ve always wondered when they was going to get rid of the coach. I never forget when we scrimmaged them one year. Our first thoughts was they was huge and the kids was saying the same thing until we see a freshman cause damage in back to back plays. One of our kids screamed man the soft.
One of the Laverne dads heard it and shook his head and went on a 30min rant about the coaches

They didn't get rid of him.  It was his choice.  He's taking an administrative position in Georgia for a lot more money than he was making  at Lavergne.

Stanton is a good guy.  He did a good job at AE, which is a very difficult place to try and rebuild.  He didn't have the success he wanted at Oak Ridge.  Some of that was his fault, some wasn't.

There's really no need to dog him at this point.  It's a career move for him, a move up the ladder in his profession.  He'll do well as an administrator.

Good Luck Coach Woodward. Seriously!

I am looking forward to seeing your team play with some discipline FINALLY there.

A LOT of talent in the halls there.  Especially now that Smyrna is not borrowing them like when Shad was there.

BTW, you are no longer in Metro.  Folks will not cut you any slack here for a second.  It is all the way to the wall all 48 minutes here.  Think Brentwood on STEROIDS.

I say all this as the last Metro Coach we got to take over one of our schools had an excellent Metro record.  Unfortunately it did NOT translate here and he destroyed one of the best progams in the state.  Now he is Coaching a middle school where his talent is par for the course.

Coach A is now retiring after 38 years of coaching. I think you should hold a retirement party for him..... In all seriousness, you know he was not THE reason for Riverdale going down hill. Might have been part of it, but you know the other variables, such as zoning, recruiting, etc.

LaVergne has not been the only mediocre Rutherford County Program to go through struggles.  The numbers do not lie.  A lot of people who cover high school football in the state of Tennessee have a false opinion as it relates to this area.  I'll prove it below:

The Myth of Rutherford County 6A Being the SEC of Tennessee High School Football

Oakland (Last 7 Years:  90-9)

Overall Summary

Take away Oakland and the overall record of everyone else the last 7 years sits at 244-236.

Take away Oakland/Blackman and the overall record of everyone else the last 7 years sits at 176-214.

Oakland is great and has been rolling under Kevin Creasy and his coaching staff.  They are one of the elite programs statewide.  Blackman has been very very good and annually proven to be Top 5-6 in the state.  Riverdale and Smyrna are both mediocre.  They are not the powerhouses they once were under Gary Rankin and Phillip Shadowens.  Those years are long gone.  LaVergne, Stewarts Creek, and Siegel (since their 2012 run) have been bad the last 7 years.  Rockvale is a new program and the book is still out on what they'll become down the road.

I get what you're saying. I believe Riverdale and Smyrna have been better than average for the most part. They are still two very respectable programs. Not Oakland or Maryville like, but definitely better than average. LaVergne and Siegel have been bad

I normally agree with you but sometimes the numbers do lie. Some would say Lavergne the school has a much talent as Oakland BUT I’ve also heard LaVergne being a Mnps alternative school lol that it’s a little different

In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
