Blackman made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs last season.  In the regular season they led Ravenwood most of the game only to fall short late in the 4th quarter 16-13. The same Ravenwood team Maryville faced in the Championship game.

Something WB....Bearden.....Heritage....Fulton.......Bradley Central.......and others on Maryville's schedule could didn't do.

So prop yourself up thinking Blackman was a much worse opponent than WB and Cleveland! Ha!

Do you think Blackman will make it to the third round this year? I know everyone is a little behind on offense with no preseason scrimmages but they really didn’t execute at all. And poorly coached imo.

Maryville Oline isn't small.

LT. Sal Schito  6'2 235lbs

LG. Jay Adams 6' 285lbs

C. Cal Grubbs 6'3 260lbs

RG. Trevor Abdella  6'1 290lbs

RT. West Stadel  6'2 245lbs

DL doesn't have a lot of size but at DT you have Zach Braden and Thomas Roberts. Both are in the 6' 220lbs range. Both kids are athletic and strong. Both bench 350lbs plus and squat 550lbs.

Cleveland gave Maryville fits but they will give a lot of teams fits. Played Central real tough also. 1st string defense didn't give up a TD to Cleveland. Plus Maryville had a TD called back. Cleveland never really stopped Maryville. Penalties hurt Maryville also. Maryville will have to play well to beat Alcoa.

Heavier oline guys than I thought.  I guess tv made them look skinny

No doubt Roberts and Braden are strong  and really tough kids.

thanks for the info

From what I see on Alcoa's side of the ball against Blackman was that the defense played lights out and the offense was only held back from it's own mistakes and not really anything to do with Blackman which is a team that gets beat by everyone on it's schedule and can only win against the give me's due to poor coaching.

You lost me on this one Barney. I was with you until you made this comment.

Alcoa and Maryville both will make teams look poorly coached and stop them from executing well on a regular basis.

I really look forward to watching this game .Those Maryville players are very strong pound for pound compared to most young men. I never understood as a parent why more dads didn't ask  their kids if they wanted to get started on some kind of strength program earlier.I'm talking simple running the hill ,Martial arts, push-ups and sit- ups kinds of things before the weight training age.

Blackman can only beat the give me's, their schedule is full of them. If they play a decent team like Alcoa, Oakland, Ravenwood or Independence mark it down as a for sure loss. Alcoa stopped it's own self the first half of that football game with them with costly turnovers or it would have been 28-0 halftime.

They sure didn't seem as good offensively,  but defense was pretty good. And was what Blaze45 had noted.

Ron, we were trying to give them Lou Holtz treatment.

So Alcoa, Oakland and Ravenwood are only “decent” and all others are gimmes. Gotcha. I would say that Alcoa, Oakland and Ravenwood are excellent teams and several others are decent (including several of the ones on Blackman’s schedule) and a few are gimmes. Just my two cents though.
