Well let’s see... I know his dad and while I don’t feel like it is my place to spell it out as to why he left WB I will say this... the decision was made by the dad because of the way his son was treated and the situations he was put in by the lax supervision by staff on the bus and the overall incompetence of said staff. This kid was never approached by MARYVILLE to come play. It was a parental decision and trust me when I say it was difficult because he was at odds with many of us over the years at different times. I really don’t call that recruiting ... I’d call it a great decision by a concerned parent.  Our coach’s dont slum around 7 on 7s all summer to recruit other teams players.

WELL, I'm glad you spelled it out! The same thing happens at Alcoa for the SAME reasons!

For a MARYVILLE fan to "claim" that ALCOA recruits is pure laughable!

7 on 7 recruiting....get me a break, One QB played 7 on 7....his Dad brought him in with two others, that LIKE your #24........HAD to come in by TSSAA rules! Many of those kids for the similar reasons! To play at a school to better THEMSELVES!

Not one Alcoa Coach  "slum around" 7 on 7's all summer. Mater of fact, the DAD, stated that ALCOA coaches NEVER attended one 7 on 7 game? Reason?...because he was frustrated that his son threw a lot more RPO passes in 7 on 7 then he ever got at Alcoa. He knew that could help Alcoa's offense. FACT.

I just want to congratulate Alcoa’s scheduling of battle tested teams .  That 3A schedule must be H E L L

YUP! Little 3A Alcoa steps up to the plate and plays 3 out of region games UP three classifications HIGHER. Those THREE 6A teams, ALL where in the third round of the 6A state championship playoffs. One winning the 6A trophy. That little 3A team gave murvul a better game than the other team in the championship game!

How about murvul? Playing up? Oh, yea, you have an excuse, your ALREADY play 6A. Sissies schedule!

Catholic schedules out of state team from Texas. Ravenwood schedules the top team in Florida, IMG Academy. Murvul?......yea, they keep playing Heritage and WB!  Step up!

Alcoa has DB left on their schedule. Bet you money their better than any team left on murvul regular season schedule!

At least Alcoa goes away from scheduling 3a school that they know will be over once the ball is kicked. Mariville doesn't have a game all year regular season besides marivul that's not over by the 1st qtr. Idk how you guys even sit through a whole game. You have to toy with teams like bearden to make ot interesting . Someone else said it on this thread, some teams are willing to go out and risk a loss to play up in competition. Some teams just want to pad the stats and make sure they go undefeated with cupcake teams

I guess Ravenwood should have been worried about Brentwood instead of Maryville ! LOL

Its a rivalry game, like you marivul guys always say, in a rivalry game each team is going to give everything they have, that was prob Brentwoods superbowl, any given game Alcoa can beat you all and you know it. The "BEST" team doesn't always win, hint hint 142 yards and a complete shut down last week somehow marivul wins a game they definitely should not have.

.........seems big ol state champions murvul had their challenge last week also. If took a lucky rabbits foot to come out with the win after getting shut down to 142 total yards of offense by a 3A school!

If Alcoa was in 6a, then I can guarantee that Marivul would have a few less gold balls to brag about. Alcoa is a different monster in the playoffs. And if they were 6a, they would def not be scared to move up or out of state to find competition

Thund3rStruck I'm sure you mean like my boys at Maryville did when they opted to play up into the Super 32 when they were 5A enrollment ? It would have not been just "a loss" it was a move up in classification.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
