We all know because outside of Greenback and sometimes Gordonsville there is not another school who can give them any competition at all. In the west much more competition.

I would try to disagree with you but looking at all of the representatives of the East since we went to 5 classes in 1993, only 5 teams remain in 1A that have been to the state championship game not named South Pittsburg.

1993 Trousdale County
1994 South Pittsburg
1995 Battle Ground Academy
1996 Donelson Christian Academy
1997 Trousdale County
1998 Trousdale County
1999 South Pittsburg
2000 Christ Presbyterian Academy (15-0)
2001 Cloudland (13-2)
2002 Boyd Buchanan (13-2)
2003 Boyd Buchanan (12-2)
2004 Boyd Buchanan (13-2)
2005 Trousdale County (15-0)
2006 Friendship Christian (14-1)
2007 South Pittsburg (15-0)
2008 Trousdale County (15-0)
2009 South Pittsburg 11-3
2010 South Pittsburg (12-2)
2011 South Pittsburg (12-3)
2012 Gordonsville (13-1)
2013 South Pittsburg (12-2)
2014 Coalfield (10-5)
2015 Greenback (12-3)
2016 Greenback (14-1)
2017 Greenback (13-1)

Why the hostility? I mean yes we do have a storied, proud, rich history here. What do you have?

Let me think....They have had a few district championships in that round ball sport....Lots of 1st round losses in regionals in that sport...A big bank that looks out of place...yeah I think that's it.

How many good teams are in the west? I mean at times you have several. I’m not sure there is much difference either way.

So lets be honest the formula is very simple to compete year in year out(3rd round or higher CONSISTENTLY).

1. Community has ATHLETES or recruits them (we all know it happens).

2.Community supports football. (positively pressures their kids to play, has high expectations and pays quality coaches.)

3.School supports football.  HIRES multiple QUALITY coaches and PAYS them better than surrounding schools so they stay and build a PROGRAM.

The stronger the three of the above are the better the program.

Why is your programs history constantly brought up like it helps you on the field currently? SP has a much more rich and proud history than meigs co. Didn't really help in that game I'm just curious as to why y'all think that has any factor in a game in 2020

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
