Trenton Peabody 2021

Varsity teams played a long half with downs, kicks (not live), etc. USJ won 17-7. Peabody had 1 first down, never crossed the 50, and scored their only points on a 70 yard pick 6. The trenches were a battle, but USJ wore them down as time went on. JV teams played a similar time but with less structure. Trenton had another pick 6 and both teams had a safety, so it ended 8-2.

Trenton guy told me it was 24-7. He is old school and was not happy with their effort.

Peabody will be Peabody when all is said and done. But to only have 1 first down and not cross the 50 is discouraging for any team. They were not expecting that.

USJ will win state this year. Just you wait and see.  Our strength for the day was our defense.  We held USJ to one offensive TD and a field goal.  Our QB was out of sync but USJ had a lot to do with that.  He was running for his life most of the day. We had a few people out but that's no excuse.  If Druggers find his second receivers, he could easily be one of the best qbs around. He has guys and he is a winner.  USJ opened their play book up but we were a little bit conservative and that's understandable due to it being a scrimmage.  We have more work to do, but all and all this will be a very good fb team come playoffs.

Don’t expect USJ to throw a lot. Qb they thought would start had elbow surgery. The one there now is a runner. Get ready for a lot of read option. He is a runner from what I hear

They did run some read option but they threw the ball a lot.

Just a scrimmage but still with returning qb and Mr Football, and the line Trenton has and U SJ backup qb' Id be  disappointed even if it was a scrimmage.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
