Enrollment Numbers

Hearing Fayetteville is in the 390’s and MC in 280’s

I wonder where the cutoff will be this year?!??

We don't know, or it hasn't been determined, if this is a complete reclassification, where all football playing public schools will be divided equally into the 6 classes or the 20% increase/decrease in enrollment will be the deciding factor.

If you weren't going to reclassify, you probably wouldn't request numbers.  I believe it will be a complete re-classification using same format based on current numbers.

How would the be able to determine a 20% increase or decrease without the numbers?  You can't.  They need the numbers either way.

Unless there has been an official vote to change from the current classification method they will go with the norm. There have been proposals but nothing has been voted on at this point that I know of.

Voices of reason...rare.

The original plan two years ago was to put the six classes in football and four classes in basketball, baseball, and softball on a two-year "experiment" in Division 1. After the two years was up, the plan was to vote to keep the six & four system and to re-draw the districts and regions, go back to the old model, or to try something entirely different. The recent BOC vote decided to keep the six & four system for the next two years. However, the BOC never said anything about the district and regions.

In the past, reclassification was a four year cycle and every two years enrollment numbers was requested to see if there was a 20% increase or decrease. If so, those schools had to move up or down. This time we don't know if there is going to be a redrawing of classes or if its a 20% check.

In my opinion, I think the TSSAA will redraw the classes. TSSAA has gotten many complaints about how the districts were drawn out especially in the four-class part. I could be wrong, who knows to what they are thinking in Hermitage.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
