I really can’t blame Mr. Walker.

I’ve always been a Haywood football fan, and I think my previous posts substantiate that.  True, the Tomcats have never won a state championship, but they have had a proud and glorious past.

However, the events that took place last February, the lack of discipline, and the lack of community support have finally taken their toll.  For the first time since I was a child, I’m not excited about the beginning of the high school football season.

That said, I would like to wish the Cats the best of luck during the 2024 season.

Chargerfan, it sounds like Covington will have another good season.  I wish the Chargers the best of luck as well.

I'm  wishing everyone a safe and injury-free season.

I understand your point of view, Stacmot, but when the first kickoff goes up in the air on Aug. 18, I know that you are gonna be interested. I'll be pulling for y'all especially since we are in different classifications and we don't play each other. You know that I only have to walk out my back door and head East about 100 yards before I am on the Haywood portion of our farm. We are very close neighbors.

I love high school football and hate to see any outside influences mess it up. It's a pure sport - no instant replays of official's calls, no beer commercial timeouts. etc. The refs make the calls and they stand, regardless of how much we fans and our coaches fuss and complain. The games are played in about 2 hours, and it's pure football. A lot of these players will play their last football their senior year, and will never suit up again in their lives. It's a community sport. For goodness sake, don't let them mess it up for you.

Thanks for your well-wishes for my Chargers. I'm excited to watch the Purple and Gold tee it up again. It's been 64 years since I enrolled at the old Byars-Hall High in Covington and first pulled for the football Wildcats, who also wore those colors. I made the transition to being a Covington fan when they combined and formed Covington High. I got to keep the Purple and Gold colors too.

GO TOMCATS!

GO CHARGERS!

The QB been gone all summer and it’s just now getting out in West TN?

No. I'm not connected to Haywood at all but heard that he transferred out weeks ago. Don't know why it wasn't talked up more, especially as good as the Tomcats have been lately and the caliber of player that Walker is.

I wish I could say everything I’m really feeling and wanting to say but I won’t. I will say this. Walker has practically been non existent ever since Smith and Rebstock announced they were moving on to Bartlett. I personally think he has gotten some bad advice and I’m not gonna speculate on where he got it from. Knowing what I know  I laughed when I read the commercial appeal article.

Sad. A small dose of reality for the world we live in today. Wish you the best @stacmot

    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war. Hope all stays healthy.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
