There're 2 or 3 keepers on the coaching staff, the rest should be selling used cars. No involvement in the little leagues or middle schools, which also has terrible coaching. But we have a very nice Stadium with an upper deck and fancy lights that change color. People in Kingsport just need something to brag about and right now it's the Band. The band has actually sucked the life out of the sports teams. At halftime you can watch 1/3 of the fans get up and leave after the band performance. And out of the 2/3 that are left, half of them doesn't even know there's a game going on until somebody scores.

Who are the keepers in your opinion?

It's not just DB, I don't think any of the NET big schools will ever be relevant in football.      Meaning in the playoffs.....

As you know I've preached it before but the big schools can be relevant in the football playoffs but the entire system has to by in from the pee wee up.  I can promise you if Caine Ballard was the head coach at DB he would win them a championship with the athletes they have including the ones walking the halls.  It's a system and a strong head coach that knows what they are doing.

Science Hill has had a lot of athletes over the years as well.     I totally agree with you

Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.

I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

The final nail in DB's coffin came when they passed on the chance to hire Witten. They let Clark with his arrogance pick his own successor and DB's losing ways continue with very poor coaching. In the meantime, Witten has gone on to win two state championships at Elizabethton. Talk about looking like a bunch of fools. But I honestly don't think anybody at DB thinks they made a mistake. Living in their own little world. Somebody needs to grow a set and clean house. Only one coach on the entire staff is worth holding on to.

The band shouldn't affect the football program negatively as some seem to indicate. Indeed it should be an asset, the pregame show is really good and is a boost to the football team coming on to the field. It still comes down to talent, coaching and preparation. what I have seen the last couple of seasons is the Indians have not performed up to the level of talent that they have and this last season (viewing the Science Hill game online) they got out talented as SH had more speed and athletes. I think the clock is ticking on the Christian program, I really think he needs a breakout year soon, or..........

Or..... what?!?!?!?       He gets replaced with another good-ole-boy?        Yeah man, I know what you mean though.    Think if they can finally beat Science Hill this year that will keep him @ the helm?

    • There’s isn’t an answer to this question because it is entirely dependent on the kids and coach. There are a ton of programs like CC around the state. The best offense is the offense that  1) The coach knows how to coach.  2) Will get kids out to play.  I think initially kids want to come out and play in a spread offense. It’s objectively more fun than the wing T. However, winning football games is more fun than any offense. The wing T, in my experience, struggles to get kids out initially, but if games are being won kids will come.

    • Powell went to Texas so I was hoping AC would travel to Seattle area and recruit some of these Young men that have monsterly good talent . Unmatched talent in the Great Northwest! I think this will be a wake up 4A call that Alcoa will see at least the next four years. Greenville, Betsy and AC. Look out, AC might surprise many with a good ground game too!
