Best teams that didn't win State Title

+1 CU06. If that OR team had of been coached by Coach Lussier who left the year before I do believe we would've been state champs, but if ifs and butts were candy and nuts yadda yadda yadda. And the Ravenwood QB's name was T.C. Jennings. Tough little QB. Becker was a fine LB. It seemed like every time Spencer would get the ball he would be right there. Ravenwood had a great gameplan to have him go everywhere Spencer would go and it wound up working out well for them. Another if was the weather. It really put a damper on our aerial game.

That game still bothers me. I covered Oak Ridge's big win over Riverdale as a young sports intern at WBIR and I thought that team would have no problem w Ravenwood after ending Riverdale's 29 straight win streak.

Really enjoyed watching Spencer and Revel play that season. Still don't know how Stanton managed to mess that up. Credit to Ravenwood for winning but I agree Lussier left one year too soon.

Not a state runner up, but Sequatchie's 89 team lost in the quarters to a Kingston team with Kevin Mays and a lot more size, on a TD in the final minute. Just couldnt stop a QB sneak with all that size leading him. A week later Kingston lost in the semis to Alcoa's team with Shannon Mitchell and Billy Williams, on a score with about 30 seconds left. Alcoa was nationally ranked that year, you could probably put Sequatchie and even more, Kingston that year as best among not state winners.

I saw that game. Alcoa was lucky to win that game. If #33 for Kingston doesn't drop that pass in the End Zone Kingston wins. Kingston was ahead when this happened. Alcoa also on their winning TD faced a 4th and 21 that they converted. Billy Williams leaped between 3 defenders and caught that ball. Kingston was really good that year.

    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
