Best teams that didn't win State Title

Some would laugh and say why.

A great “tight knit” team who went 12-3 in Bruce Hatfield’s first year.

In Spring Practice before the season one of their seniors died during practice.

Here were their playoff results that year.

 

AAAAA Hillsboro W 54-23 Early Round

AAAAA Smyrna W 17-9 Early Round

AAAAA Brentwood W 33-23 Quarterfinal

AAAAA Houston W 21-14 Semifinal

AAAAA Oakland L 46-24 Finals

 

Beat a Brentwood team at Vanderbilt who was the favorite for the title.

Everything went wrong at the Clinic Bowl.

After the game they were sad, but yet happy because they dedicated the season to their friend who had died. They knew they did all the could in order to remember him.

1996 Goodpasture lost in finals to Webb. 14-1 Overall with 2 Mr. Football Guys.

 

Still considered the best Cougar team ever despite the fact they didn't win it.

The 1978 Red Bank team that lost to Gallatin who had Lonnie Burke at

tailback. The QB for Red Bank was Bill Price and his favorite target was Gary

Partrick this game was for the state championship at Red Bank in 1978!

linemancoach, you sound like you know a lot about Hendersonville football. I work with a guy that says he played there: Shane Miller. Do you know who he is?

Pennington was redshirting at Marshall in '96. He last played at Webb in '94. Became the starter at Marshall in '95 and then took off '96 while Eric Kresser (who transfered from UF) played during that season. Chad then took back over for '97-'99 seasons.

 

That was a pretty decent Webb team though.

I do recall the name Shane Miller at Hville. Was not friends with him nor do I know what year he graduated. I think he he was a QB.

definitely the 2003 LC team...who didn't think they would go all the way at one point or another? also the 1984 team (although i'm too young to know about them personally) went unscored on til maybe their 8th game of the season. lots of incredible athletes on that team i've heard as well.

yea ya'll have been pretty good about puttin us out of the play-offs a few times. my sophmore year you did and even though our team wasn't that great that year, we all hated oakland for a little while lol.
