  1. The New Word of the Day at William Blount is Defense. Shad informed the school if you want me to quit filling out applications then build Defense at the Loudon County Line before I lose every player I have to Greenback.

  2. Alcoa is playing home and home with Blackman beginning this year, and they play home and home with Maryville and D-B, and have for a while. That's 3 pretty tough non-region games. Greeneville plays home and home non-region with Powell, Science Hill, and Austin-East this cycle. None of those are chopped liver. It's easy to sit back and criticise schools for not traveling across to state to play, but the reality is that it's more economics than anything. Taking long trips is expensive considering the bus bills, meals, and other incidentals. And when playing home and homes with schools in other parts of the state, gates suffer, and especially when playing private schools that just don't have a big fan base to begin with. Ticket sales matter. Scheduling has to make sense logistically and financially. Every dollar counts in a high school football program. It's an expensive sport in which to field a team.

  4. Well pull up a seat and let me tell you some of the reasons from someone's eyes that has been around a long time now. Back in my playing days there were more rivalries than today but a lot of that got swallowed up by schools consolidating and the watered down 6A format from the original 3A. Other reasons are long distance away trips for games that are meaningless and very predictable not to mention the mercy rule which was put into place simply because classification does not work or we wouldn't see the run away games that are happening within district competition. After the third week of the season the rest of the year can easily be figured out by most fans who choose to do something else on Friday Nights from that point on. Another reason that differs from my time and today is the fall vacation thing can effect attendance a week or two when fans go out of town. With the games being carried by the internet has caused me to stay home a few weeks a year with many as half a dozen windows open jumping from game to game. College Football has started trying to steal some of the Friday Night High School crowds also. Biggest threat is the T$$AA and having 6 classes which is an absolute joke but their not about to let go of the money their making to change back even though their actually killing the game. We all know that 95% of the first two playoff games are a total joke and if bad weather happens the schools take a financial bath. Now if the T$$AA were partners in the gate for those first two games and shared the loses the schools suffer then we would get rid of this crap. Go back to 3 classes and forget this everybody has to win a trophy garbage before they kill the goose that laid golden eggs.

  5. You are koo koo Bass. I have no doubt that Greenback is good and has great talent. They probably are the favorite to win 1A. But for you to say they have the biggest and fastest players in 1A and 2A is nuts. Have you seen this year’s Greenback team? Not last year but this year. Don’t say what you have heard. I want to know what you have seen with your eyes. Have you seen all the other teams in 1A and 2A?? Lake Co has had 2 transfers and another former player come back out so that is 3 new players. Peabody in 2A has picked several transfers. That’s just 2 teams. So come on man. You are just spitting out stuff you have no proof of. Again they may very well be the favorite and win 1A. But you have absolutely no way of knowing they have the biggest and fastest players. Bless your heart!!!

  6. Greenback picked up a good kid and all of the Maryville fans will be pulling for him and hopes he does well. The young man has been in some big games for us including the win over Oakland last year. I'm sure he'll get more playing time at Greenback then he bargained for and who knows , he may see action on both sides of the ball.

  7. It has nothing to do with academics. It all boils down to playing time.

  8. Peabody & Milan would both beat Lewis Co or Riverside 8 or 9 times out of 10

  9. Greed kills everything that is good and if the T$$AA has a $413,000 loss in business from one year to the next someone needs to make some changes because their business model isn't working.

  10. Just want to remind everyone that Maryville and Oakland played each other in a home and home the last two years.

  11. None of us know how this team will perform. Saying that this should be the best team in recent memory is a little premature. Could they be? Possibly. The only downside of getting new players is it takes a little time to get the system down and to get a feel for the game. This team looks very good on paper but we’ll have to wait a few games to see how good they really are. After the 2nd week, I believe we’ll be able to tell how good this team will be. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

  12. Now you know this answer the gate. Whatever happened to just a good football game to watch? You have 3 other slots to make money games. Most of these coaches are scared to schedule tough, because they think going 9-1 looks better every year. Schedule teams they know it will be easy win. Then hide behind it don't make sense to schedule them. What about win or lose, it will make your team better late in the year. Money games will always be there, but the lack of competition and competing is missing from high school football.

  13. All this watering down caused a handful of schools to dominate certain classes because enrollment is not the clear overall solution. Same ole thing like clockwork every year and people are sick of it and quit going.

  15. Our sport continues to grow! Big news out of Sumner County as it was announced to today that Gallatin High School will be adding a wrestling program! The green wave will begin competition this coming year under new head coach Dustin Stone. Huge congrats to the green wave and cannot wait to how they do in years to come!

  19. Exactly! How many academic kids get recruited and have financial aid packages? To me....they are not in our league and I really don’t give them a second thought anymore.

  20. I agree. When I lived in Oak Ridge, I didn't give the Private schools any thought. Then I moved to Chattanooga and had my eyes opened about the good and bad about Private schools. I was a third grade teacher at a minority inner-city Chattanooga school. At one point, I had three former students playing at Baylor. Then the report cards came out and all three were shown the door. Two finished at Tyner and one at Brainerd. Young kids need to be careful when they leave their original school districts and go mess with the Private schools. The Private schools are more cut throat.

  21. What benefit does a Sumner Co school have in playing one of these teams? In my opinion they might as well not exist because they offer financial aid and get to pick and choose while others have to take what we are given. I enjoy the community schools a lot more. They can schedule each other or out of state.

  22. Riverside/Lewis Co? That will be a decent game but come on man. You’re talking like Peabody & Milan are a bunch of scrubs.. you know nothing about high school football if that’s what you’re insinuating.

  24. Well , I hate it for the young man because Ive been told that it really isnt what he wanted... I wish him much success , he is a fine young man. It may prove to be good for both programs by opening up a spot for the future.

  26. Roy, get your goat going. We need to get more players. Greenback lost one stud QB due to graduation. They replaced him with TWO stud QBs. They lost two stud receivers at graduation and replaced them with one that’s about 6”5. They lost a stud LB and replaced him with another stud LB. Roy, we need help or we won’t make it past them again.
