I just want to take a moment to say thank you to all coaches, parents, volunteers and school administration to allow each one of the student athletes to be able to compete on this level. Without your tireless efforts and commitment, these kids, cannot learn how to problem solve, overcome adversity, work ethic, drive, dedication, toughness and countless other skills it takes to be successful in life. We celebrate these kids who are wrestling and putting names in history now, but I also want to thank the FORMER coaches, athletes and volunteers who committed their time like the ones now. Remember your history as a school. Remember the people who came before you in your school and state who paved the way for this to be possible. If that one coach 5 years, 15 years, 30 years did not have the vision to start the program, we would not be where we are as a state without you. The fruits of your labor have been and will continue to be shown as schools make history, break records, and impact lives through this amazing sport. So once again, thanks to all who ever had a hand in this sport and we work together as a state to better each and ever program (even start a few more) and impact lives through this sport because that’s what it is about, impacting kids for the better.3 points

I am from Dresden and I do understand what a great team means to a small town. 2016 was a wonderful year for Dresden. I am only speaking my opinion as to what I see when they play. When they played Dresden, Moore threw an elbow and the official told our coach that it wasn't a foul because she didn't hit anybody. He acknowledged she threw the elbow. That is like throwing a punch but because you don't hit anybody you shouldn't get ejected. I have seen Greenfield play 7 times this year and they are fun to watch but they still get away with mugging the other team.2 points

Greenfield plays 6 girls. They get away with grabbing, holding, pushing and elbowing like no other team I have seen. If they run into a crew that doesn't give them this ability to foul it will get interesting really quick. They are a great offensive team with a lot of weapons and they play extremely hard but they also get to foul more than other teams. You can call it great defense if you want but when it happens to Greenfield their fans stand up and go crazy. They never foul and always get fouled. Still my favorite to win it all but nobody will just roll over and give them gold ball.2 points

Is that supposed to be sarcasm or a shot at all the wrestlers, coaches, fans and administrators involved with Fairview, Whitwell and the entire "small school" community. Maybe they care as much as you and the mighty, high powered Tennessee "big school" community does about their business. I can just hear some wrestling fan in IA, PA, OH, NJ, CA, etc. community asking "wow did you see that upset at the TN state tourney"? and some arrogant jerk says "who cares, that's TN".2 points

They can! Through all of us working together to get everyone to that level. Joint practices, welcoming other kids to clubs, promoting clubs, helping with transportation, providing funding to start these programs, etc. it won’t be tomorrow, or 2 years from now, but starting with getting excitement and selling the vision at the high school, trickling it down to the middle school and youth programs. As we can see, our national brand of Tennessee wrestling is improving, but we need to keep pushing and finding more ways to help each other out. The only way to get better is mat time with kids that are your level or better than you.2 points

TN finished with 4 top four placers at National Prep today. 1st Cooper Flynn 120p Mcdonogh 2nd Cody Chittum 138p Blair 3rd Keveyon Roller 113p Lakeway Christian 4th Braden Ivy 120p Lakeway Christian Pretty amazing showing for TN. Just imagine if TSSAA hadn’t screwed up the schedule this year and all the Preps had been able to go how impressive our results could have been.1 point

No disrespect to Pankey. She's a good ball player and very tough, but......I'm not even sure she's the 2nd best player in their district. IMO1 point

It happens to South Side every year! I think they need to change the voting process! If a team keeps beating me, why would I vote for them? The voting process Is a joke!1 point

Greenfield never thought they were gonna lose tonight even though it was closer than the final score. They are on another level talent wise and mentality wise. Moore took over in the second half and carried them again. As for the first game, Gleason coach should be fired and the parents of the players should be very disappointed in their daughters for going along with him. As somebody stated earlier, Randy Frazier would never consider losing intentionally.1 point

Was it too close for you to give play by play tonight? And you sure seem to like to call out other schools but don’t want to hear anything negative about yours lolol.1 point

Tonight is the championship between Fairview and Hickman County. It should be a good game and I think Fairview will come out on top. They are playing at home and they are ready to continue the winning tradition from the last couple of years. I don't think it will be real high scoring game, maybe high 40's or 50's, with Fairview winning by about 7-10 points. Hickman will play tough and will of course bring a really good crowd with them. Good luck to both teams...GO JACKETS!!!!1 point

That’s amazing!!! Let’s keep this momentum going with not just our peeps, but all of our wrestling student athletes!1 point

For sure. This could be the same for a lot of Tennessee wrestling if we grow this sport and keep growing our feeders. Once this occurs, and our duals, regionals and state tourneys are at a higher level we can even compete at a higher level on the national stage1 point

Bradley was a little bit of a surprise to me this weekend. With how they finished state a couple weeks ago and how they did at regional individual I thought they were peaking at the right time.1 point

It was a stupid statement, don’t let people upset you like that. I think that on an individual basis small schools could compete with large schools I just don’t think combining for duals would be fair due to the resources that large schools have as well as allowance for travel, etc that give them an advantage. And by stupid statement I mean it’s a small school who cares.1 point

I bet they are paid more than here too. Especially when some high school coaches are in 6 figures.1 point

Central is Meigs biggest rival and those games will always be close, just like Macon and Upperman. I haven’t seen Macon this year but I have seen Upperman, and if Meigs takes care of business and wins the region, it will be hard for Upperman to come to Meigs and win. Meigs is a hard place to come and get a win. Bradley Central is the best team I have seen in a long time and Meigs took them to OT just a few weeks a go at home, but a lot of ball to play before we can really talk about it.1 point

All Individual sports should have one single Tournament for Individual Championships! Have as many divisions as you want for team Duals, heck I would add a third division to Public and a small school to private so that for the team duals there were 5 divisions but for the Individual championship there should only be a single tournament for every kid that competes for HS. If you did that then you wouldn’t be able to hold the individual tournament in the Agcenter anymore because there would be to many fans so you would have to move it to Bridgestone!1 point

Yes! He did a great job and you did a great job picking! You think about it as well, 170 - 1 vs. 2 wrestled in the quarters. You can’t predict that in your rankings on a blind draw.1 point

also shoutout to @Hamm. as much as people complain about rankings, he’s pretty spot on. only 1/28 finalists is unranked (Though previously ranked), #1 at all but 1 weight is in the finals, 25/28 are #1, 2, or 3, and 6 finals are 1 vs 2...with an additional 5 being 1 vs 3. great job hammbone1 point

http://www.pin-tn.com/?page_id=1207 Kudos to the Coach that updated the Pin TN rankings prior to the tournament- the only areas that did not play out as listed (after the semi-finals): 145: #1 Evan Anthony Vs #5 Benjamin Marchetti (great tournament for Marchetti- close win over Radpour 6-4- BIG win over Barnes 9-1) 152: #1 Garrett Bowers Vs #3 Lawrence Madson (not far off and in my opinion Madson was #2 based on regular season) 182: #1 Connor Duffy Vs #3 Chase Looper Based on the last PinTn DII Rankings...this was pretty spot on at the top of the ticket! ALL other #1 Vs #2 in every other weight class are set as listed. My key matches for tomorrow "in the finals": 120: #1 Dayne Darymple Vs #2 Jack Braman- can Braman redeem from earlier loss? Darymple may be too strong.... 160: #1 Alex Whitworth Vs #2 Omaury Alvarez- Alvarez has wrestled Whitworth closer than anyone in TN over the past few years and seems to be closing the gap and had a huge win over Spell in semis....Does he get Whitworth in the finals? Should be a great match. Not bad for a freshman...either way, his future is bright. Going to go on a limb....Alvarez wins state. 170: #1 Gavin Cagle Vs #2 Jacorey Miller- can Cagle redeem earlier 3-1 loss to Miller. Miller's move to 170 may have been a brilliant move. Jacorey is very quick and athletic....but I think Cagle comes back and takes the state here. 195: #1 David Harper Vs #2 Parker Peterson: WOW! Per previous comments by Bearcat 90- I think this will be the match of the tournament...going with Harper on this one. Will be close. 220: #2 Al Wooten Vs #2 Barrett Chambers: Chambers gives up a lot of size to Wooten, not sure he can overcome. Wooten is the safe pick. I think Shack Van Dusen may have a trick up his sleeve strategy wise and may give the underdog Chambers an edge. Going with Chambers! These are the interesting matches from my perspective...the rest of the weight classes I think will go #1 over #2 as listed.1 point

Calvin is a good athlete. If you put him in the Cleveland or Bradley room for one year he would not only win the state but may TF or pin his way through the tournament. You have to be in a good room and compete against good competition everyday.1 point

I tell you what, if Greenfield's bus driver keeps getting these girls to their games on time, they are going to win their second Gold Ball in 3 years!1 point

Greenfield 69 Union City 53 - Final 29-0 District Champs - Great job girls Tough game! But we needed that. Listened on radio and they thought the game got really physical. Sounded like the UC fans got crazy again. Union City needs to get their students under control but that’s hard when your boys coach acts like he does.0 points
