  6. I would have to say Reuter and McMinn Central’s Johnnie Morgan. are two of the best in the state not just East TN. There resume speaks for itself.

  7. Antioch QB's Dad is a coach at Antioch. He would be a good choice.

  8. I think some people don't really understand how the process actually works. Just because one hasn't officially applied doesn't mean that there hasn't been contact. In fact, most high-profile coaches don't officially apply until they have basically been asked to because they are the likely choice. In this day and tie with the FOI act the media has access to the names of every single person who applies, and most head coaches don't want it known that they are looking at options, just in case things don't work out there. And I can't say that they are wrong for doing it that way.

  9. It should be noted that Cleveland lost 3 varsity wrestlers due to illness, and at least 2 would have won their brackets with the 3rd finishing top 3. I don't know if other teams had similar luck, but that was obviously a factor for Cleveland's finish. That said, congratulations to McCallie for getting it done.

  11. I could see JJ at DawgHouse making the jump to college as a recruiting intern or analyst. He could also enroll as an undergraduate volunteer while working on his degree and kill two birds with one stone. Pretty clear he is a good salesman.

  12. College football is a completely different animal because of the recruiting aspect. I would bet that would be the main hang up for a lot of guys that could make the jump. I think there are a number a guys that could make the jump to college. NFL is an ole' boys club so I doubt anyone could make it there without serious connections.

  14. The old term for what you are referring to is being a Renaissance Man. I completely agree with young men being very well rounded.

  15. Correct again. Out of the reach of most families. Our Son in law and his twin brother were boarding school students at McCallie their sophomore through their senior year. They were from Lake Jackson, Texas. This was in the mid/late 1990’s. They played football and ran track. Their Father sent them to McCallie to grow as men and to participate in a much more stringent academic setting. John told me it was the best money he ever spent. On the other hand, if the boys had failed, it would have been the biggest waste of money he had ever spent. We sometimes put too much emphasis on athletics and miss the greater picture of developing well rounded men and women. This includes, but not limited to moral and social development, academics and enhancing an appreciation for the fine arts. If anyone knows me I’m all in on athletics, but the whole man is extremely important.

  16. It's funny how you mention the tuition of Father Ryan not being close to what the tuition is at Baylor, MBA or McCallie. Rest assured that many of the Father Ryan alumni that I know are upset and have been forced to move outside of Davidson County for a public-school education, send their children to other private schools or even send their children to MBA because Father Ryan would not offer them 100% of the financial aid that they qualified for, and with MBA offering 100% of the qualified financial MBA was less expensive. Even being a diocesan school, Father Ryan is the most expensive coed Catholic school in Tennessee and probably the Southeast. The sad part is that Father Ryan has become nothing more than a school for affluent Catholic students and families. As the former Evansville, IN Mater Dei wrestling coach once told me, it's hard to win state championships with kids that live in homes that have three and four car garages. The days of Father Ryan having roughly 50% of the student body being from hard-working blue-collar families has been over for a long time and I don't ever see things returning to the old ways of Father Ryan. These things alone make the job that Pat Simpson has done at Father Ryan even more remarkable and almost unbelievable.

  17. First of all, Stanton Stevens will only come back to a local school that has an Assistant Principal/AD position available. Central just hired a new AD this year, I don't see Stevens going to Central because of that reason. Plus AE is currently open as well so if anything Stevens would return to the school he won his championship at in my opinion. Stevens and Graham at AE again would win that community back in a heart beat. Central needs to go ahead and hire Lane or Headrick bring Helton's boys back to coach.
