I think topic is best team Maryville beat.

There's no mistake the 2012 team was better.

Gotcha! GQ once said that he felt like they'd won a couple they shouldn't have (stole a couple of games), but he said the 2008 game was definitely one he believe they should have won, but didn't.

That's one of the few (only?) times I've seen him dumbfounded when (forgot his name) got hurt. Changed everything.

I think the best team a Maryville team ever beat was the 2002 Hillsboro team. That was by far the best Hillsboro team I have ever seen.

Other great teams Maryville has beaten.

98 Elizabethon. Jason and Shaun Witten were the stars of that team.

2001 MOWest team. That team was loaded and beat Maryvile earlier that year.

2004 Melrose. By far the best defensive team I ever saw a Maryville team go against.  RB Craig Cooper was a stud.

2005 Melrose. Same as 2004.

2011. Whitehaven. They were loaded with talent.

2012 Siegel.  Best offensive team I ever seen a Maryville team play. Brent Stockstill was a stud even with a hurt knee.

2014 Ravenwood. Ravenwood had awesome skill players.

That 2001 loss was the week of 9-11 and that was the week the world changed forever and I believe we would have won that game any other time. Everyone was in a total fog as I remember that game. It was like nothing else I could ever compare it to.

In fairness Barney, there are at least a couple of gold balls that Maryville won that could have easily been silver balls, too. It works both ways.

Norman I can remember almost every game clear as a bell from 1970 forward and the teams that should have won but due to the bad breaks of life they didn't. Those teams were the 1971, 1975 ,1979, 1984, 2008, 2012 and 2015. Not having your best player got us in 1984, 2008 and 2015. The ref got us in 1975 and 2012. A grasshopper tripped up our QB as he was fixing to run into the endzone in 1971 and we fumbled in the Red zone with less than two minutes to go in 1979 and loss 13-10. I could break everyone of those games down for you. Yes we won a few also that could have went the other way but seeing it and playing in it I can remember all so well.

I guess people in Morristown didn't know about 9-11

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
