Of course he said no..why would anyone resign from that position - He has it made there. The guy has done an awful job and should be rightfully fired. If I didn't do what i was hired to do...I'd be fired as would most people. I hope the principal and AD make the decision to get rid of this guy and erase these last two years as if they never happened.

West is a mess but it can be cleaned up. But only if the admin cares about the program like those who have played or parents who have had kids play (like myself).

If he resigns, he could still keep his teaching job. I've heard that if you get fired, you also lose your teaching job.

That's pretty crappy. Your whole job depends on wins and losses on a football field and could be the best teacher in the school. How do some head coaches just coach around here and not anything to do with the teaching side of it. Could someone answer that one for me.

That doesn't happen in Knox County Public Schools.  Head football coaches are also teachers, or in the case of Clark Duncan, an administrator (assistant principal/AD).

There are some private schools in the area that have non-faculty/administrative head football coaches, but off the top of my head I can't think of any public schools that doe, or at least at the 3A through 6A level, which I am more familiar with than the 1A and 2A schools.

So really there's another edge the private schools have a public don't if I'm reading you right.

I don't know that it is an "edge" or not.  Just a policy that the Knox County Schools System has the "major" sports and head coaches.   And I understand why.  Those in those positions should be visable and active in the schools during the school day, in my opinion.

Of course, having a head coach who isn't full time at the school isn't exactly an edge, in my opinion.  When a head coach has other business interests that take him away from practice about as often as he is there isn't doing a program any favors.

When I played for Ted Wilson at Maryville he did some of his best recruiting in the hall ways between classes.

If west doesn't make the right move, that school will lose everything us former players, coaches, and everybody else that put in the work that took that program to the top for the very first time. It took so much to create a successful program. Ask cummings what he had to do. All of that work finally paid off for 5-6 years, now only to watch it fall within two. That coaching staff has so many diamonds on it that other schools will and have take advantage of. AD better act fast or WEST will be the laughing stock it once was.

Let me introduce you to the John Allen experience... :popcorneater:

You've not reached Powell levels yet, but I understand your frustration.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
