All smack talking aside, it’s going to be a great game and atmosphere for sure. Whoever wins is going to have a really tough game the following week at Lake Co. (most likely) as well.  It’s no secret nobody in Huntingdon knew who Cornersville was this time last year. I can promise you they do now, and they have the Mustangs full attention. It was amazing how in one year, in the preseason program, almost every player said the team they wanted to beat the most was Cornersville. They’ll get their chance Friday night!

Probably won't be much football talk in this entire thread. For almost the last year we habe hashed out the X's & O's, Jimmys & Joes. I look for Cb10 to be in rare form in the middle of the week. If Cornersville wins. Some folks may want to change their screen name lol

And if there's so much extra money laying around spend it on a good coach that can win the big ones! Huntingdon is the best regular season team in the state every year and the biggest choke in the post season, good luck friday

Now for obvious slight against Huntingdon coach.

Every coach, with maybe the exception of Nick Saban, get accused of not being able to win the big game.  I assumed from your comment, that Rice from Wayne co must be in the category of Saban so I did a little research.

Counting this season and the previous 10 here are a few comparisons.

Huntingdon

  • 98-35
  • 1 Silver Ball
  • Eliminated by eventual state champ 4 times
  • Eliminated by state runner up 1 time
  • Eliminated in 2nd round to a team that did not make championship 4 times
  • Eliminated in 1st round to a team that did not make championship 1 time
  • Still playing this year

Wayne Co

  • 104-32
  • 1 Gold Ball
  • Eliminated by eventual state champ 3 times
  • Eliminated by state runner up 2 times
  • Eliminated in 2nd round to a team that did not make championship 3 times
  • Eliminated in 1st round to a team that did not make championship 2 times

I am not even going to make comparisons to regular season competition.

Basically, 2 very similar programs, very similar results.  Guess now your looking for a new coach in Wayne Co?

Sure do hate the streak ended tonight. Was looking forward to another 50 point running clock game on the magic carpet. Final game on the turf this year. At some point Huntingdon will lose a game on their new turf but it ain't happening this year or next! Stangs move on to the semis in Tiptonville and put a running clock on a very average Lake Co team

Meet me at tbe start of the game with a 100 dollars..Oh but wait.Cornersville will be there

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
