Check out this link to 1993 Meigs and South Greene playing for the title. South Greene had won the previous year. I believe the video was recently posted by one of the Davis sisters. The audio and video are very good. Enjoy.

I was actually at that championships that year.  South Greene was undefeated and lost to Meigs in the first or second round and didn't make finals.   And Meigs played Livingston Academy  in the finals.  Thats the game I went there to see since Livingston is a local team.  I thought for sure it would be South Greene vs Livingston in the final.   Ohh yeah you were right about South Greene winning the previous year.  That was the finals and South Greene was undefeated on the season.  Did they not have twins on that team?

Yes, the Davis girls are identical twins. The video said they were 6'2", but I don't think they are quite that tall. They both went on to play for Clemson. Susan Starnes was another key player on that team. She later played for Tusculum College, a local school, and is in their Hall of Fame (if I'm not mistaken).

The Davis girls both teach and coach in the Greene County school system. Jennifer's daughter is a freshman on SG #53. I saw her play last week. She's special.

The South Greene community is like a large family. Many of the past players come to the games with their families. Several current players have parents that once played for SG. It's great going to the games.

I was at the GP and Grainger game.  Grainger is tough matchup for most teams they are very deep team.  GP is a good team but young...Outside Bales and Moore GP struggles to score.  Grainger defended Moore pretty good.  Bales is going to get 20 you just hope to not give up anymore.  Grainger missed several point blank shots.

This is unofficial but word is two good AA teams lost their posts in Crockett County and South Side to knee injuries looks like for the year. Prayers to both.

Are you talking about Currie-Jelks for South Side?  If she's out for the year, they will struggle to be competitive.  She is an outstanding player

Yep. Went down last minute of GC game. Heard y day it is an ACL. Not official but that is the rumor and the big post from Crockett County went down Monday Night with ACL. This is unofficial. Prayers to both girls. I really hate it.

Grainger should make it this year, after seeing some teams play and seeing some scores, I believe 2A in upper east TN is a little down this. The only teams that can challenge them are, NV or SG.

I will say watch out for Alcoa this year.

Grainger got beat by Greeneville this week and struggled with Gatlinburg on the road. Grainger has talent but will struggle against well coached teams. They will miss Combs on the bench this season. Looks like he was a BIG piece for them.

Northview and South Greene are solid but not near as good as last year. NV has the Penland girl but not a ton around her, although they do have some shooters who help if they’re “on.” SG is well coached but just doesn’t have the scorers they usually do and lost probably 60-70% of their scoring from last year.

These teams get the publicity because they self promote but here’s my outlook on East TN, or at least this substate area:

Sullivan Central (Abbey Crawford D1 post is TOUGH), Elizabethton (long and will be matchup problem for post season teams) (1 and 2) Greeneville, Grainger, South Greene (even)

Alcoa, Gatlinburg-Pittman, Northview (Top 3) Carter, Pigeon Forge (even)
