As a Covington fan, I read this thread with interest. The last couple of years, we gave Alcoa some competition in the 3A championship game, but could not get over the hump to beat them.

Maybe the OP shows the difference between the Alcoa program and the Covington program. I may be stupid, but I don't believe that Covington is hiring teachers to get their kids on the football team. I have a daughter on the Covington faculty and probably would have heard about that. I don't know of players whose families are moving to Covington to have their sons play sports. As far as I know, our players come from students at our middle schools. In fact, Crestview Middle is the main feeder school for Covington, and some of their players are zoned for Brighton High.

Is 3A football in the state of Tennessee a level playing field or not? Hmmmm.

Maybe the off season workouts  shows the difference between the Alcoa program and the Covington program.  3A football in the state of Tennessee a level playing field, Alcoa just outworks everyone else.

Fixed it. All kidding aside, Covington is a great program. You guys had a great game plan and played outstanding. Sometimes thats just not enough, sometimes the other team is better than your best. Alcoa off season work and in season prep won the game. Op is just  to stir something up and other people are just mad about sour grapes.

Your opinion edited into my post.......a little dirty pool. Covington has a great off-season program, and has for years. Alcoa's might be better, but that's debatable. Why not state your opinion separate from my words?

Now, to the main point. I have heard rumors for a while about Alcoa, but until the OP showed a news article quoting members of the actual Alcoa school board about some questionable practices, I was not going to comment. Unless somebody lied in the news article, school board members made specific accusations in an open public meeting. If the accusations are true, then they do explain the difference between the two programs.

Since you want to speak for Alcoa I'll ask you directly: were the accusations true?

Just having a little fun with the quote. No dirty pool intended. I can't really speak for Alcoa, but the issue was addressed already on the thread. Two school members with the same last name(hmm) raised an issue. The issue was addressed professionally by Dr. Bell. If you read the article objectively, a rational person with no skin in the game, can probably guess what the real issue is with the school board members. Like I said Covington was a great team. Alcoa was just better on that day. This next comment is not directed at you, but some people just want to have an excuse for Alcoa beating them on the field. Like I said, sour grapes.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
