No, the city receives tax revenue from all the areas annex, at least that was the rationale given by a city commissioner. The annexation is on the road, and any future business they place on the road side would be subject to city sales taxes, after a 15 year window. So again, the city annexes to increase tax revenue.

If you don't think its fair, suck it up princess. It's a legal process that was approved by the county mayor and county commission. If the cities want equal split tax dollars, then both city schools systems should have to get budget approval from the Blount County Commission since they are receiving county dollars.

Yep.  And when a city annexes an area they also become responsible for providing services that no longer county responsibilities.  And annexed areas still have to pay county property taxes, as well as city taxes.  The county still gets revenue off of annexed properties.

And you missed the entire point. Like I said, the cities have an unfair advantage when it comes to raising funds that the county doesn't. When they annex an area, even with the city services provided, they gain revenue through taxes, otherwise they wouldn't take the time to annex it. So the main point is, the city can raise money for education without having to raise taxes on their residents.

Yeah, but I'm talking about a kid who's dad played football at WB. 1979 would be the earliest DOB. He is the first one that I know of. His son played in the Early 2000's. I can't recall any before him. Most would come later.

Gotcha. I was thinking the 1st  kid of a WB football player to play at Maryville came a little later, but I'm sure you're correct. I just cant place who it was. When did the dad graduate?

Correct, but even with services provided, the city is still generating more funds; otherwise, they wouldn't annex the area. Yes, the area still pays county property taxes as well, but the point is the cities have a mechanism for raising funds that the county doesn't. This allows them to raise money without having to raise taxes on their residents.

And the county still receives property taxes from those annexed properties, yet the cities take on most all of the services the counties were previously responsible for.

But again, all of those city residents and commercial property owners also pay, and have been paying,  as long as they have been in the city limits, county property taxes, too, and that eases the burden of services on the Counties.  So who really is and isn't paying their "fair share"?

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
