I’m sorry! Why would you watch that game?  Not even a contest for Pickett this year. As for mostly freshman on the team? Nah he didn’t have all freshmen he had several juniors on the team. Nothing is going to get better until something changes. Zero direction at the grade school and middle school level now.  JC needs to get back to what got them to the top. The kids need to start back in AAU and the coaching needs to improve at the lower levels immensely. Brown only coaches high school now. Every school around JC has most of their kids playing AAU they have 1 here or 1 there. The parents have to buy in and get their kids in the gym and get them some coaching. Otherwise it’s going to be another decade or so before they get better.

I just seen it on the NFHS network. He told me this summer he was going to play a bunch of freshman and start over. You got to have the drive. If you don’t have it, somebody else will. Gibson County has a great feeder program and super coaches at our lower levels. We are set for a while with a good competitive program. Good thing about Gibson County is most of the kids over there don’t play other sports and are dedicated to basketball for the most part. A few play softball but he has them playing all the time and the parents are dedicated too. You play basketball at Gibson County it is your life. That is the way it is. We have a coach who is dedicated to the max. Very fortunate and blessed to have we have going now!!

That was the way it used to be in Gainesboro.  Not so much these days. Brown can still coach but lower levels just not developing the talent like they should.

Following the conclusion of the girls’ state basketball tournament quarterfinal round today, we are suspending the remainder of the girls’ state tournament and next week’s boys’ state tournament. Whether we will be able to reschedule these events will depend on the length of the suspension and the availability of facilities.

We intended to conduct the tournaments with restricted attendance as we announced earlier. However, today has seen the suspension or cancellation of championship events by the NCAA and multiple collegiate conferences including the SEC tournament that was being played nearby; the suspension of regular season play in the NBA and the NHL; the closure of university campuses and of several Tennessee public school systems; and the suspension or cancellation of high school championships in multiple other states.

COVID-19 is a public health threat, a threat to our student-athletes and our school communities. With the actions being taken all around us, including the action of our host university MTSU in sending all students away from campus, we believe it would be irresponsible and contrary to the public interest for us to continue our tournaments at this time and risk contributing to the spread of the virus.

We will provide further updates as this pandemic evolves, including updates on whether we will be able to reschedule these tournaments.

We got to get by a good Pickett County team. Loretto would be favored against either of us but both would be a challenge and a dogfight for Loretto.i have watched film on Pickett. They can play.

Gibson County has the best coach in the Tournament.  Loosing the bulk of our offense from last year and has us playing for another championship.  And as of right now, we are still the defending state champions since the tournament was canceled.

Pretty large statement to make with Coach Rogers still in the tournament with a big win today.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
