Everyone knows how consistently great Maryville is every year, you have this aura of invincibility that Christian probably just wanted our team to not think that way. Maryville is also the best coached team in the state i doubt that some comment is gonna make them more motivated or ready to play, they are already ready to play every game and its the playoffs, everybody is plenty motivated in the playoffs,

This is exactly accurate.  Every week if you listen to the coaches show we are usually the favorite, but you will walk out of the room thinking we are in serious trouble.  Their players, coaches, concessions are far more talented we ever imagined.  He is playing the role of being a good sport, our players are not affected and the results are as expected.  Then we reach that part of the season (the playoffs) where we come up against a Maryville.  Now, the roles are reversed.  Our players may have a few doubts so the coaches reverse the dialogue to bolster player confidence.  If you’re from Maryville, you never experience this effect, your never the underdog and thus your coach will only use the complimentary dialogue.  I’m sure 99% of the posters on this board already recognized this, but greyrider seemed really bothered about it.

We weren't favored against Alcoa at home, but we won!

Not bothered just think it was a disservice to his team. Our coaches never bad mouth another team. But they do a great job of inspiring and preparing for opponents.

A rare GovMan opinion:

1.  DB coach should make the comments that were published in article only to his players to motivate them.

2.  As other coaches have found out in years past, it might be better to actually beat Maryville first, then make your comments.

3.  I GUARANTEE you what he said will make the Rebels “more motivated”.  They thrive on that.

4.  I hope DB does make it interesting, it would make the game more entertaining to watch and help Maryville as they move on.

5.  Good luck to both teams.

DB coach “ should have been 9-0 because MARYVILLE shouldn’t have scored” ... lmao what an a $ $ hole he is. MARYVILLE has been doin things for 20+ years that they “shouldn’t “ be doing. I’ll go out on a limb (again) and say this ... the only reason Alcoa scored the 1 TD was because the starting MLB was on the sideline for 2 plays , if he had been in it would have been 14 -  3 .  That’s kind of like 45 -10 I think.

With only 145 total yards of offense.........if Rankin had not given the rebels a short field, it should have been a shutout! :thumb:

If the 15yo soph QB could have hit 1/3 of his passes, Alcoa would be undefeated!

I can play the if and butts:lol: game too!

Sure but mine is based in reality. I don’t think that there were any Clark’s on the field either

    • While I appreciate being credited with multiple accounts, I have to say that is not true. Will you please report back to your people that I am not someone who provides sharp, witty banter, but rather someone who is putting the shoe on the other foot for some people that have been repeatedly bashing others here and in real life for the past few years? Everything that I have stated has been backed by factual evidence or public record, so no need to be sharp and witty.
    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
