That is right PP68, I forgot all about that. It was actually a couple of years after Pickens graduated. Rodney, Shane, and Brian were something to watch.

Hate to see that the game got dropped but times have changed. We played a home and home with them when Dale was here the first time. They brought a good team to town in the first matchup and won a close one. Dale left after that season and wasn't here for the trip to Murphy. Believe they brought a decent crowd if I remember correctly. Future looks bright for MC and SP at the moment. 

So the state's longest rivalry will not be played in 2021? Wow,  this could be the start of consolidation of Marion schools?

Second year in a row it won’t get played. I’m not sure about NJ, but that Murphy bunch is the real deal. That will be a tough game the next two years.

Well... I guess since SP has 5 titles and Murphy has a boatload of them..it qualifies as a clash of champions.

Nope. Sp backed out of the 2 yr contract.

Yep, we did back out.  Call us chickens.  Call us other names.  Dish out what a few on here deserve after not letting go of the past.  It is what it is.  Considering the rising tension, it just isn’t a good idea to play the game.  Besides, Murphy NC will be a lot tougher competition.
