A game they can't go to and sleepwalk through. I've not said much about the Alcoa game but they failed to deliver the knockout punch and let them back in the ballgame. I sat on the Alcoa side and there wasn't one person around me that didn't believe in their heart Alcoa wasn't going to win even when being ten down and the interception around 4 minutes. I said Saturday Maryville didn't win anything Friday Night they escaped which almost felt like a loss and had there been one more minute on the clock I would bet my life Alcoa would have pulled it off.  They knew exactly where to go to and it's been the weak part since the first scrimmage against Oak Ridge. I won't say what that is but it needs to be fixed asap.

Barn I'm glad Alcoee kept giving us the short field, with the kickoffs. Alcoee made a play that kept them in the game knocking the ball loose with one of our receivers going in the end zone. Buckles is a good player and I'm sure Catholic wished they had him back. It was a game of momentum with lots of swings and players making plays. Just glad #43 was on our side. Regardless I'm sure I feel better than the Alcoee fans did Saturday.

I will take a win over Alcoa anytime.  Alcoa is a great team.  Great Quarterback, College Sized Oline and good skill players.  Maryville won't see  no one as good as Alcoa unless they make it to the Semifinals and face Oakland. I said on another thread that Alcoa fans have no worries the rest of the season.  Alcoa will win 3A and not break a sweat.

The "block in the back" call was big too. Coach M. White didn't care for it. He was sharing the hut with the radio crew, and it went out over the air. I didn't hear it live, because I was at the game, but the broadcasters passed it on.

I heard it and accused the wrong person.  The coach didnt sound happy. It was a little awkward for the radio guys, but funny.

I know I may sound unreasonable or a sore winner because we didn't beat the crap out of them like Powell. Getting that score before half, we should of came out the second half and broke them into like Powell for a big knockout punch. I give Alcoa credit for great QB play but if you leave the back door open long enough you can make Jarett Guarantano look good and that is exactly what we did. Thank goodness Markel was tall enough to jump up and save that over snapped ball when we punted or we're beat right there. All the cramping especially on our side of the ball was another thing  that played into Alcoa's favor giving their big guys a good rest  Joe Black retires and we look like half the team had pigged out at the Spaghetti Factory before the game scattered all over the field everywhere you looked in the 4th quarter. My last gripe was that Alcoa didn't make a program this year and last year the girl told me at the gift stand. She said the President of the boosters club was only part time and it took a lot of time to make them then she offered me a fan with the names of the players on them. I told her that sounds like the president we have running this country, a part time guy.

    • Understand the young thing.  I was one of those.  Barely 17 when I graduated from high school and started college.  But redshirting for athletic purposes isn't doing them any favors, in my opinion.  Life isn't always going to be fair.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
