I'm glad you mentioned that transfers and move ins are happening at all of the top programs.  The families that are moving in are visiting each program and making a decision in their best interest.  Nashville is a magnet and we have great schools in both public and private.

This is going to be a fascinating match-up.  Can someone expand on the Oakland D?  I saw 3 undersized DL and 8 fast linebackers as a description in an earlier post.  What is their offensive mix between James and Horton?    Lipscomb will likely put up points, but can Oakland control the game with a CPA style?

Heavy on James and Patterson and lighter on Horton.   The passing game isn't near the level of the running game.  Horton is extremely talented but doesn't get tons of opportunities because the run game is so effective.   Defensively they are very disciplined,  very athletic and fast.  Don't know what kind of release the LA QB has but it better be quick.   He will get pressure.   Heavy and often. The remarks about 3 lineman and 8 backers is pretty accurate.

I never said undersized. Three down linemen and eight linebackers. This is just an analogy.

The Nashville school DL reference was old school! :thumb:

I've seen a lot of folks on this thread post that Oakland would either have a running clock or win by 3 or 4 touchdowns.  They either think Lipscomb won't be able to score against the Oakland D or it will be a high scoring game with Oakland scoring 21-28 more points.

Can we get more specific?  Any score predictions?

Yea…I’m curious about this as well.  The reality is that there are very few people who have seen both teams play.  All of these predictions are based on history…what we know about Oakland and what we assume about LA.  The only folks that have seen/analyzed both are probably media.  Be prepared to be shocked when you see score predictions coming out next week…much closer than you may think.

I got Oakland 42-14

My reasoning is, despite LA having the high flying offense, they will be out matched on line of scrimmage. They will get after the LA QB like a southern family on a Christmas ham. Also they will use their power running game to move up and down the field...

I respect that…solid reasoning.  Not really a running clock like you have been spouting about now is it :)

I don’t think you understand how good LA is….and I may not understand how good Oakland is…we’ll see.

Either way, appreciate the back and forth…hopefully more to come!

Hey that's what we're here for, AND I did my math wrong, I was thinking the 42-14 score was exactly a 35 pt difference, hence the running clock, I see now it's only 28.....lol

Well let's say the clock starts to run at 42-7, and then it stops when LA gets a late score making it 42-14.....lol

Seriously though, as good as Oakland is in the skill positions, I believe what makes them so good is their line play on both sides of the ball. They look like a freaking college team...

Sounds very impressive.  Does anyone have the height and weight of their starting lines?  Sounds like they have a bunch of 6'4" 280+ guys.  That would be hard for any high school team to stop.

Nothing specific but I'll say this.   I own a small business in Murfreesboro and a kid comes in time to time.   He's a freshman lineman for Oakland.   He starts on the freshman team and also dresses for varsity.   Few freshmen do.  He told me he's 3rd team varsity so I asked him if the boys in front of him were bigger.   He said "yessir, a bit "  Just guessing the young man I was talking to is roughly 6'2 or 6'3 and about 240-245lbs.  Oakland has some big kids but not many giants.   What they do have are large numbers and speed.

Is LA significantly better than last year?

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
