I went ahead and created this website to talk about our upcoming game against these Wolverines from Trenton Georgia.

Another battle with a bordering state.  After the Pirates rallied from behind in the 1st ever meeting against the Chiefs of North Jackson,  can the Pirates build some much needed confidence?

I don't know where Roy is.  The last I heard he was last seen galloping off  on that Hollis mans mascot horse.

Thoughts?

I was told that Cooper man down there that is the AD knows all that Stone mans secrets and he told them to his son so he can run wild on us.

I think this game should be a regular season game every year.  They are close, and they are competitive.  That Cooper man was a great multi sport athlete at SP.  He had a lot of successful programs come through SP as well.  I guarantee that Cooper man didn’t know that Stone man’s reverse flea flicker that won us the game at NJ.

Northwest Georgia Wolverines have been so bad over the years they had to change their name to Dade County. In reality they were called Northwest Georgia originally because Davis on Sand Mountain and the school on Lookout Mountain were consolidated with Trenton to form Northwest Georgia High School.  After several decades went by, the name was changed.  SP pummeled Northwest down there in 1978 and Dade County at home a couple of years ago. I think this will be the 3rd meeting.

I’m predicting another good game this week.  This SP team has some talent at the skill spots but our receivers, quarterback, and running back are bigger than our offensive line. I love the pirates but this is the weakest team we have had in awhile.

Does it get better next year losing all the skill players that you do?

You know the answer to that lol. Warriors have better talent the next few years and it starts up front.

Pirate 2003 is correct though. Our O line does their best. They play hard. They just don’t have the God-given talent and strength that the last several years line has had. For this reason, SP needed a miracle to beat NJ. Mount, Kelley, and Hunter run for their lives.

Our O line is obviously our biggest weakness but last Friday it was a lot more than that. The coaching situation is hurting more than what most want to admit. We looked lost for most of the game on offense. I'm not blaming the current coaches they both were delt a bad hand but I believe they are going to have to go back to an offense they are comfortable with ( I know that's near impossible at this point in the season) I still think this team is better than what most are giving them credit for but one thing I don't understand is why so many athletes are sitting on the sidelines on defense and offense. In my many years of watching Sp football and going back to just about every state title team most played both ways.

Makes sense to Have your best 11 always on the field, only reason not to go both ways with stud athletes would be conditioning imo ! But I haven’t seen a  “out of shape “ Pirate team since my time in Tennessee ! I can only imagine the pressure on the coaches, lots of expectations in South Pitt, and for good reason, been the standard in the a purty darn long time now ! GL Whooping those Trenton GA boys, hope you see some other Trenton boys later on, fingers crossed !!!!!!!

With only 3 games under our belt I personally think we could still switch back to varying versions of the wing T. I believe this would be a better fit for our current line situation. Much less time they need to try and sustain their blocks . It would also give us the ability to rotate a lot more skill guys in and out. As always, that’s just the opinion of this old timer. Go Pirates.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
