Do stats matter when it comes to MR. Football? is it popularity contest? Best player on Best Team? I'm asking because some of the winners don't have the blow me out the water stats. Congratulations to the kids I would never talk about a kid but really what is the qualifications ?

about the same qualifications that voted someone other than Jamal Stewart at East as Metro football coach of the year.

Since you had to ask, you probably won’t understand. I’ll try anyway.

Take Buckles numbers and multiply them by, let’s say, 3. That should give you about what you are looking for….:thumb:

His numbers come from approximately 20 quarters of 40. (Sorry not including playoffs) 3 may be a bit high, but I’m taking into consideration that Rankin normally calls the dogs off at 42 points…

He was also the best player on the best team…

Hey you're selling Mr Buckles short, don't forget Alcoa had 2 teams scare to play them in the regular season so he might of played 18 quarters of possible 32

Either way, his numbers were/are very  impressive.:thumb:

The most impressive stat that throws the popularity contest out the window is his play in the biggest game stage.....the Championship Games. In two Championship Game appearances Caden Buckles was voted MPV two years in a roll. This based on game stats and play. He was clearly the best player on the field for those games.

Sportswriters from across the state submit the original group. There is a panel of coaches, oficials, etc., that pull it down to five. Then a special, "select" group of writers vote for the final three.

Please note:  Statistics are considered ONLY from the regular season. By the end of Week Eleven, the first cut is already being done.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
