The thing is not every single one of them had a hardship …..

It isn’t hard to find another school in Memphis there are lots of them. If the same happened here the whole football team wouldn’t be approved to go to the same high school

And follow the coach.

One thing I know 1,000% for sure.. when ANY team over-estimates themselves or under-estimates their  opponent.. disrespecting everyone & everything (incl’d themselves more than likely!), then THAT is when they are in big time danger of being whooped, shocked, taken-down, disappointed, spanked, wood-sheded, heartbroken, schooled… or whatever you want to call the old-fashioned agony of defeat. . getting it handed to them by the unlikely & impossible & underdog opponent that would never beat them... the very team that wasn’t worthy enough to even be playing such a team as “us”, or playing the game itself.. THEY are often the very ones to slay Goliath!  Seen it soooo many times firsthand, & it’s seen weekly across the world in every sport, right? For me, being humble & gracious in victory, & teachable & motivated in defeat is the way true champions roll.. but I’m just a silly & delusional old hick from the sticks, usually clueless & crazy. Fo’ ‘sho! :flower:

So you think if Peabody shut down, Jacobs was hired at Milan, and ALL the football kids enrolled there that someone might question it??? I think everyone would understand.

Not that anyone cares, but my take on the subject...the situation of MAHS shutting down and the team being "disbanded" is unprecedented, and I sympathize with those kids. Moving forward from that, I just can't fathom the whole team following the coach to another school being absolutely above board and "legal" in TSSAA's eyes with all the coaching link and transfer (hardship) rules.

As for the team's gold ball chances...there's a gauntlet of championship caliber teams that will invade Memphis week after week until someone is left standing alone to represent the west in Chattanooga, and the odds aren't great for any one of those teams individually, no matter which one you call the favorite. As for the "one game at a time" scenario, I'd be worried about facing MASE. There has been a couple of instances where teams with the same reputation have faced the west's "favorite" and given them all that they could handle. Peabody was the recipient of some horrible coaching and monumental luck, and Westview had to outgun a very capable team to even reach the games that they won for the championships, and this team could be better than either of those for all that I know.

I don't think I've ever seen a team finish the season with only 2 wins on the field, score only 56 points the entire year,  then be ranked in the top 4 of a class the opening week of the following year in the AP.

Folks like to give the AP a tough time & rightfully so.

I really don't think this could happen any where other than Memphis.

MASE will be very hard to beat but they are not unbeatable. They are contender to go to Chattanooga this year. Their schedule and lack of competition might bite them in the end. After the first round of the playoffs the competition will get alot better than anything they have seen all year.

Knowing Coach Miller's experience with what he went through last year. Trust me, he knows the competition will get tougher. It's not going to be a surprised to him, or any of those players. MASE is going to be fine!

They will be well rested and healthy too with that easy schedule. It will help and hurt, I’m sure they are working on their depth in these blowouts wins. They won’t be as battle tested, but they are going to shake some things up in the West if the coach is as good as advertised.

    • With Westview only losing one senior and returning Sims, they have to be one of the favorites in AA
    • Watched Westview at McKenzie Thursday and they surprised me. Without Evans (who was sick) and Brent (who had thumb surgery shortly after getting back from her ankle injury), they looked solid. I didn’t realize Gray from SF had transferred in. You have Sims, Gray, Brent, Trevathan, and Evans and that’s a solid 5. Then, you bring in Hayden and Rogers off the bench along with some other upcoming and they will be tough again this year!
    • Hmmmmmm doe dee doe doe……sounds like they are leaving Geenback faster than the lawnmower will go in fifth gear.  Hmmmm….. you can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • West looked solid...excited to see this young group excel
    • When you have a school that right at 200 kids only half are going to be male and to get 25% of them to come out for football is a very hard task. Take away an 8th grade syatem and your you have another hill to climb up. If 5 kids are actually leaving your not going to have enough for practice. Your only chances for wins would be against the weakest of weak teams. At one time Greenback had kids coming across the wall like the Mexican Border and now their leaving town before sundown. A hugh mistake was made on not hiring Ryan back because of his ties to the community and his ability to bring in the right kids, not run them off. The last coach failed because he wasn't one of community so they go out and do it again. I'm sure Coach Clemmer is a good person because I do know people that do like him but he is caught in the middle of a fan base that will not support him no matter what and it could lead to a disaster if that many kids are leaving the program. The person that caused all of this mess has no business on the school board and needs to stick with hiding in the bushes giving out speeding tickets to out of towners coming through.
